Geo-caching

Hi – just wondering whether anyone here is into geo-caching?

My husband and I started late summer after seeing some of our friends disappearing every-so-often saying they were just off to find some caches. To be honest, we didn’t know what they meant until we asked them. It’s the outdoor sport or game of searching for hidden objects by using Global Positioning System and we are ‘hooked’. We love walking so now plan our walks to take in various caches which take us to places we would never have thought of going. For example, I was early for a visit to my dentist so checked my iPhone to find that there was a cache just 300m away. It was a tiny magnetic cache (just big enough to hold a tiny, tiny rolled-up log sheet) and it was placed on a strut right in the middle of a huge bridge over the railway. Unless you knew there was something to find, you would not have known it was there.

We introduced our grand-daughter to geo-caching, and at 5 years of age she loves it. We have managed to find a few caches which contain items to swap so she gaily holds my iPhone and leads the way.

All in all, it is a good sport which makes our walks more interesting and varied. We have found unusual footpaths and routes locally which we didn’t know existed and look forward to planning our next venture.
