Getting out of the house

Many older people become stuck in a rut and don't go out of the house especially when they ave lost a loved one and are alone and lonely. This is a plea for you to find your local Wetherspoon pub and visit it, They are clean, warm, with no headbanging music and open from very early in the morning. They do a filter coffee for about 99p and you can help yourself to as many refills as you want up until 2pm every day. The food is very reasonably priced too. I am not employed by the company just feel very strongly that their pubs are ideal for us recycled teenagers. Some people form a coffee club and meet once a week for a chat. I find that most Wetherspoon customers just like to chat and they do have a laugh. So go on Silversurfers lets start the Wetherspoon silversurfers clubs and start to exchange experiences.

Hello. I am new here too. I retired in March 2017 with a full pension from a stressful NHS job. I thought I would never work again and looked forward to “me time” at last. By September I was really fed up. I started volunteering one day a week for the RSPCA as a cat cuddler! Love that so much. But still wasn’t enough. I now work 21.5 hours at MnS. They sent me on a course, and I am now Master Barista in the cafe. Whole new skill set. Very busy now. Very happy and not at all stressed. I strongly feel now that even when retired you still need to have a purpose and a reason to get up in the mornings and out of the house.

I have been volunteering since I retired 5 years ago, it can be very rewarding as you say. Also this year I joined 2 local community choirs, and I love it. You don't have to be a famous soprano to join a choir, just love singing! We always feel so good after a choir practice and have a laugh.

Hello Margaritta

I live 500 miles from Bournemouth so not so handy to meet for a coffee. I spent many holidays in your area. We used to caravan in Grove Farm Meadow, Christchurch. You live in a beautiful area, I hope you meet with other people soon, I know from experience it's not easy being on your own.
Good luck.

As we gave up drinking earlier this year, we've been avoiding pubs, but our solution has been to trawl TripAdvisor for well reviewed independent cafes and we've found some little gems. My favourite so far was undoubtedly, 'A Great Little Place,' in Southport. it is an Autism Ventures enterprise with a happy atmosphere and the most wonderful range of homemade cakes. There are so many wonderful local non-chain cafes working so hard to succeed in a world of Starbucks and Cafe Neros.

Hello I'm new to these forums, but here goes. We have a nice wether spoons close to where I live, but also our local library runs a morning class for our age with quizzes and talks just for a couple of hours. We also have a couple of churches that run different clubs to cater for more or less everyone. You do have to make the effort and enquire what is going on in your area. Hope this is of help.

I wish I could say the same about the Wetherspoons in my area of Kent I am afraid its to be avoided at all costs. You cannot have a decent conversation due to the local out of work set congregating daily & just taking over.
