Great Rail Journeys USA Coast to coast departing Sep 12th - 30th.

Good day, travellers. I need a travel companion for this holiday already booked; my current companion has cancelled due to back problems. Do you like the look of the itinerary? I am male, age 72, healthy, NS, with a young outlook. Wife not as interested in travel as I am. Slightly prefer female as I grew up with 3 sisters, but also happy with straight male companion. We can meet to ensure no mega-incompatibility. Let me know if you need more information; I really don't fancy doing this trip alone. Thanks.

I'd have loved it but at 83 I have to be sensible , I did the Indian - Paci fic in Australia a few years ago and if you enjoy your trip as much as I enjoyed mine it will have been time and money well spent . As a matter of interest I bought a second hand car in Perth so I could top off the trip by driving , solo, back across the Nullarbor , a few people said I shouldn't but at 72 what's to worry about?

Hi Brian I think Reader99 started posting about this back in 2019 - not too sure if he went 2 years running. Iam actually Australian and wouldnt mind do the trip you mention - if you want to tell me more that would be great. Driving back alone across the Nullarbor sounds a bit crazy. My imagination says it would have been good to pose a photo broken down with no water!

I've been getting my trips mixed up. After I retired I managed 6 trips to visit my late brother who'd been living in and around Victoria for about 40 years. , The Indian Pacific trip as only one way to visit an old army mate now living in Perth (Joondalup) and I flew back. The Nullarbor trip was another visit when I stayed with my brother in Castlemaine, Vic and while there I bought a second hand Ford falcon and after having done a return trip to visit a Niece in Bega and a Nephew in South Grafton I went back to Castlemaine for a couple of weeks then set off up country to Katherine to spend a week with another nephew , from there I drove across to Port Hedland and then down to Perth. After a fortnight with my mate and his family I set off back to Castlemaine across the Nullarbor . In all I was there for 12 weeks and covered 16,000 miles. I gave the car to my brother when I came home and he ran it for about 4 years. I'm afraid at 83 my long haul trips are behind me. As a former trucker I was not only used to long drives but was, and am , quite happy with my own company. One of the funny things that I've never forgotten was when I stopped at a roadhouse in nFitzroy Crossing thinking I'd get a couple of slices of toast and a coffee to be told that they didn't do toast as " We don't have the equipment".

I see - thanks for your reply Brian. Have to say I'm fascinated at how some peoples are happy with their own company - I definitely need feed back or a sounding board if you like (in a positive sense). In todays world it works really well to be self contained. You've made me quite wistful for Auss again - had some good fun times there in the 70s.
