Greetings

Good evening! I am new to this forum, wondering if there is any activity on this site. I see you have a Facebook page, but also note that it is an open rather than a closed group, so I am not very inclined to use it.

I am 60, recently retired, married, living in southwestern Virginia in a log home. I have numerous interests including amateur radio, gardening, fishing, reading, and cooking. I hope to make a few more acquaintances and have some interesting exchanges with others while here. I must admit I am a little concerned because I do not see evidence of a lot of activity on this site, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Let me know if there is anyone home here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi all. I have just joined , but am familiar with Silversurfers on Facebook. I live in the South of England just up country from Sunny Eastbourne. I am 61 and just about to get married for the first time! May 29th. My loves are Travel, especially cruising ( we are going on a cruise to the Canaries for our Honeymoon), I read, love shopping, cooking and films and lots more. Am looking for like minded people to chat too.

Hello ... I am new to this forum, and just finding my way around. I love chatting to people and making friends ... I use Facebook, but I find forum threads are easier to follow and stay up for longer so it is easier to make new friends. I love cooking and trying out new recipes, gardening and growing my own fruit and veg .. I have just invested in a Nutribullet .. does anyone else have one?

Oh dear--maybe I should have put my post on here instead of starting a new thread. Sorry everyone. I guess I will just have to learn as I go along. ๐Ÿ˜ณ
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hello to you all.....I've just joined here and trying to find my way around! I'm not sure how to chat with people - so I thought I'd just leave a message here!
I'm in my late 50's and living in N Wales, having previously lived in Scotland (although I was born and bred in Wales)....
Thinking of retiring down South....Bournemouth sounds nice....but then there's Suffolk too - or perhaps back to Scotland again - so decisions to be made!
Anyway I look forward to chatting with you soon....
Best wishes

The jackdaws in my chimney are definitely nesting - 2 sets I think. My son refused to remove the old nests and seal the chimney last year, so here we go again. I hate to think the babies may fall down. On the other hand I would have been in a state watching him go up a ladder onto the roof!! No pleasing me really - anxiety is my daily hobby!

Yes, we have that problem with Jackdaws. I'm sure they just congregate on the chimney and just scream down it, just to wind us up! My daughter, in her previous flat had two, actually come down the chimney!

Oops! I see that I'm now 2nd in the Posting table. And I haven't even met half of the people I've overtaken! Does this mean I talk too much? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

No problem Margie. Like I said, Goldfinch (one of my favourite birds) always seemed to be unavailable in forums and websites. So I just 'bent' it a teensy bit to get around it.
Hope you have a lovely day. The weather is absolutely glorious up here. The snow is rapidly diminishing on our local mountain. In spite of our northern latitudes, compared with London (and Devon). Spring always seems to break out much earlier here.

I am a long way from you in Devon. Weather here today. Cold but sunny. Yesterday not a cloud in the sky..
hoping for clear sky's tomorrow for the eclipse..
just walked Georgie my dog and just popped on here for a while .
so morning to any one who reads this have a good day x:-D

Hi to Margie ๐Ÿ™‚ Actually it's 'Goldfynche' I spell it the rustic way. Not always taken in various websites, like the conventional spelling usually is.
I'm hoping for clear skies tomorrow, too. We're getting a 95% eclipse where I live!

Yes. We get plenty of Dunnocks here and far too many Jackdaws. All the birds seem to start their courtship singing far earlier up here.
We appear to have a somnambulant Robin that sometimes sings way into the night and the wee small hours.

We had mist all morning but a lovely afternoon here. Lots of activity around the bird tables. I have seen lots of sparrows and dunnocks this week - which may sound ordinary but I have only just been told the difference and in my 5 years living in North Essex I never saw one sparrow on my birdtable. Loads of jackdaws here - they nest in our redundant chimney stack and make a real hullabaloo!

Hi to everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ I've probably already said Hello to some of you. Up here in Scotland, today was the warmest day of the year so far. No complaints from me. There is a beautiful Song Thrush singing out the front in someones front garden. My passion is bird watching, and I get plenty of opportunities up here.

Hi Margie and Blackdog2!
Great to hear from you both.
You sound like you are in a nice spot blackdog2; It sound lovely to me. I currently live in a small village near Mildenhall, but it is not a place with much noticeable life. I drive over to Newmarket for an occasional U3A meeting for company of my own age. I am currently living with my son and his family so it's is a busy household, but we all need our own space at times. I certainly agree that it's good to talk and I hope that a few of us will get something going on here. It is a rather drizzly day here today but that was bound to happen as I repaired my washing line yesterday and left it full of washing overnight! Fortunately the daffs are out and the buds are beginning to show around the garden so plenty to look at.
Best wishes to you all.

Always difficult to post anything on these sites, most seem to have very little activity and you wonder whether or not you are wasting your time, will anyone read what I've written, will anyone reply? A lot of people are lonely and wish to have contact verbally or by email but somehow that British preserve prevails, retain the stiff upper lip and your comments more often than not remain unanswered. Not daunted, good morning to anyone who might be reading this, particularly to Suffolknan as you are not too far away from me. I live about 5 miles out of Norwich, near the Showground in Norfolk. Dog and I live backing on to woods so after opening the gate at the bottom of our garden we can enjoy about an hours wander with very many good sniffing stops, for him that is. Just a brief few words in the hopes that someone somewhere will be sufficiently interested and luck might favour me with a few replies, it's good to talk.

Hi Margie!
Really pleased to get a reply! Thanks so much!
I have seen from looking through the lists that many people don't get a response.
I don't do Facebook or any other type of social media.
Sadly I no longer have a dog and I really miss him and the walks! Such a waste as our house backs on to common land.
My dog Ollie was 17 when he died 2 years ago - he was a medium sized foxy red jack-of- all types rescue dog. He had depression when I got him but he was a delightful character.
I cant have a dog at the mo as we are too crowded, but when I move into my own place again then I will certainly get one. Better to talk to the dog and cat than talk to myself!
Sadly my cat was run over just a couple of months after I got here.
I tend to use my computer in the evenings and I look forward to hearing from you again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello All
I am hoping to talk to someone on this site but cant seem to find any specific instructions on what to do......so obviously failed that test!
So I will introduce myself and return tomorrow in hope that I have somehow managed to break in.
I am 61, a widow and I retired last year in desperation at the government having moved my official retirement age yet again and being sure I couldn't bear to work another 5+ years. Had an interesting year living with my son and his family (for economic reasons) near Newmarket in Suffolk. I am a member of Newmarket U3A and got the details of this website from the U3A Third Age Matters magazine.
From my bedroom window I can see (not now, as its dark) some beautiful trees in our garden and behind that a piece of common Breck land. There is a pony and an Ass tied up out there at the moment; I guess they must be hardy types! On Saturday I went to Anglesey Abbey (National Trust) with 2 of my grand-children and their/my co-grandmother, while no 3 grandchild was being born! Lovely spring day and beautiful park land. Hoping to have lots more opportunities to make such happy memories.
