Hi I too know exactly how you are feeling I lost my husband suddenly last March at the age of 65. We had just retired to Devon two years before and now I`m back in Wales close to my family. This first year has been the hardest and loneliest of my life. I`ve cried more in one year than my whole life put together I`m sure. This too was not how I`d pictured our life would pan out. Thought we`d have many more happy years together not just 42. I`m wondering if this pain will ever go away. Family and friends help but when you turn off the light at night just try and remember the good times you had together and smile through those tears.

Hi Northern
I`m sorry for your loss too. Why is life so cruel? I thought life got easier the older you got but when something like this happens you feel out of control. My family are amazing but the feeling of loneliness even in a crowded room is overwhelming sometimes. I have been thinking of writing things down but will I be dredging it all up again, I don`t know?

Hi Raindrop,
Since losing my husband I plucked up courage to join a creative writing group and it has helped. I did write about what happened at first, but now I write about all sorts of things. I gives me something to think about.

Another thing I do is by my bed I have a notebook and every night before I go to sleep I have to write down three good things that happened that day. Sometimes it’s something like seeing a beautiful sunrise while walking the dog, or having a nice meal. At the end of the week I can look back and think well maybe this week wasn’t so bad.

But that thing of being lonely in a crowded room is so true.

Thank you both for your good advise I will try that notebook by the bed..I talk about my husband all the time too, he will never truly be gone from my mind. I still think he`s out fishing although I know he`s not coming home. This helps me get through each day, also I feel when I talk to his photo he gives me advise on any problems I have. Strange isn`t it? I hope you all get through the sadness too.

I too just take things one day at a time and I feel my husbands spirit with me too. Sometimes I even see his sleeping form in the bed next to me in the darkness, this comforts me a bit. I`m sure he is everywhere as he loved all his family. Even my sister has heard his voice which woke her up. So you talk to your mum I`m sure she can hear you. I was wondering if anyone here has been to a medium.

Hi Amycakes
I`m so glad you`ve found an outside interest for yourself. The Group you have joined sounds wonderful. I`ve been staying with my daughter, babysitting but when they move house next month I will be back home. There are lots of things I want to change in my house which will keep me occupied but I will also try and make time most days to get out and about. I too considered moving nearer my daughter but I have so much family around me that I`m staying put. Feeling a lot better too, still get a few bad nights though but learning to control them and remember happier times. Good luck to you too.

Hi , I became a widow , just over 3 years ago. It is hard , I sympathise with you . I have 3 children , 2 live in New Zealand ,& 1, 2 & a half hours away from me. So I get lonely on times. I joined a local club in my village where I made a lot of good friends , we meet up once a week, organise outings to theatres etc, quizzes , meals out . At least once a month .This has been a life saver for me . My children worry about me on my own , but since making the effort to get out & do something about my loneliness, they see the difference. I still get bad days , I guess that's normal. I thought about moving nearer my daughter , but realised I would miss so many things here. So hopefully you too will be able to make more friends & that will help , I am 77 years old , but in my head I'm 30.Lol. Good luck.

Do take care if you are seeing a medium....its so easy to make what she/he is saying to relate to you when in reality its general. Seen people get wrapped up in this.
My husband died very suddenly at my feet. It was rather a shock to say the least. However you do have to get up and get on. Whichever way you choose is up to you. We all get by/through as best we can. Time accommodates. Just don't stay indoors and weep.
Put on you face and get out there. Hard if you are in a new place but possible.

It will be nice to compare medium readings I am not sure yet when I am going but will post on here what I was told. Here`s hoping we both get true messages. All the best. xx

Hi Northern
What a coincidence I am going to see a medium later on this year with my sister too. We were going in January but the snow stopped us, I did wonder if it was a sign but we thought about it and decided we wanted to go and find out one way or the other. I do believe life goes on but would like to be told something only my husband could tell me.I`ll post on here when I`ve been will you too? xx

I lost my husband in October 2017, he was 58 and we were just about to retire to Devon. I am totally lost, and incredibly lonely. Even though my youngest child still lives at home she is out at work for long periods of time. I never envisaged being on my own and am finding it very difficult.

Hello Pee

Know exactly how you feel - I lost my wife in December and it's hell on earth. This is not how I expected the future to be, she had only just turned 64 and died the day before my 65th birthday. It's very tough.

If you want to talk privately just send me a message.
