Group holidays for age 50+ solo travellers

I am considering joining a group holiday for 50+ solo travellers either in the UK or europe and would like any reccomendations or advice as to suitable travel companies, What has been your experience if you have had a similar holiday and would you go again?

I went to Bulgaria with Solitaire singles holidays and the 'group' consisted of me and 2 other ladies who didn't get on one bit, and took every opportunity to talk to me about the other one. I'm not one for being nasty and tried to keep the peace and at one time intervened in a 'debate'! The hotel was like Butlins and the rooms very shabby and we paid £400 more than Thompsons even with their single supplement. When I complained; as did the other two ladies, Solitaire didn't want to know. The country of Bulgaria is nice and we all did our own thing which I don't really mind but it wasn't my idea of a 'group' holiday.

I am a retired female looking for a female geocaching buddy near Bedford to join me whenever convenient. I have also been on many cruises and managed to find caches too which is a bonus. If anyone is interested in joining me on a cruise or other holidays (each can do their own thing if not interested in geocaching) it is the company that I would appreciate especially in the evenings as they are long and not nice to spend on your own.

I've travelled with Solos & Justyou mostly on short festive or city breaks & they have been fine. The atmosphere is generally good & they are well organised so you can make the most of your time. Inevitably you will get on better with some people rather than others - but that's life!

I am interested in joining a group motorcycling trip, Ideally somewhere warm like France, Spain or Italy for 1 week or two. I dont want to buy a bike but hire one for the trip, nothing too fast, maybe something like I rode in 60's or 70's. Also not interested in camping or roughing it. It would be good if the wife could follow in a hire car too, anyone know of a company that offers such a service? Thanks

I keep trying to arrange meet ups too, maybe just book a house or something somewhere nice for a group of people. Only trouble is we are spread all over the UK and the world.

Well we could arrange a holiday somewhere with a few of us all going together, or even a weekend away or a day out somewhere. What do you think, I'm happy to arrange something if there are enough of us, maybe rent a villa/house/cottage or whatever?

That sounds super I need to get out and about but don't want to go alone I like a bit of stimulating conversation and chatting to all kinds of people a group thing would be nice to try

What part of the country north south east west or middle but a weekend would be good not to long but long enough for introductions and if it went well another one could be arranged

Hi, I have traveled with Getaway Sailing several times , they have over 50's trips and single/solo couples yachts so great if if you are travelling solo. You can sail around the Croatian Islands for 7 days , 7 islands or Greece ( only in September ) you join a Yacht with other like minded travellers and its amazing ! You dont have to help with the sails etc but if you want to "pick up a few ropes " you can..Prices start from £525 each , no single supplement if willing to share a berth . Iv never been on a cruise and I hate the idea of "making friends " by mingling about !! This holiday you have a ready made group of friends from all over the world and never have to drink or eat alone ( unless you want to ? )

Hello, I'm Iram and I joined Grand UK holiday as they cater for 55 and over holidays and even solo traveller's. I wanted to go on one of their holidays to Scotland but since i'm on my own I have to pay a single persons supplement. So I guess, I won't be going.

Hi, I've been on quite a few holidays on my own over the past 10 years and have found them to be quite ok. I've used Solo, Just You and Explore. I have been to China and Italy with Just You, completely different destinations with very experienced tour guides. Explore do some excellent 'adventure' holidays, you mix with english-speaking couples and singles from various parts of the world. There is a single supplement, a part of single living at the moment alas! If you like meeting new people and travel then I would say 'go for it'.

I went on a Flavours of Italy holiday a few years ago and did the cookery holiday. It was really laid back and had a brilliant time. A little bit of cooking (more like a bit of stirring here and there with a glass of prosecco close by) and trips out by minibus. Very well organised would definately recommend.

Hello,
I agree travel companies can be expensive I have travelled independently which can sometimes be cheaper with two, I now feel that as I am older that travelling solo is perhaps more secure and reassuring in a group or with an organised travel company.

I totally agree with you. It's as though they are charging for 2 people. I am interested in finding another female travel companion. Any ideas on where you intend to go?

hi
I would recommend Travel One have booked with them a few times and felt it was value for money. You can do your own thing or join with others. The Travel One group eat together in the evening and have always been a friendly lot. It would also fit with your age group
