Motorists who park in disabled bays when they are not disabled only in a hurry and can't be bothered to walk very far.

lots of abuse.
Response from Bibbi2434 made on 8th Oct 2016 06:01:21
I totally agree. The same goes for the people who park in the familly spaces but seem to have left their children at home. Laziness isn't a disability. It annoys me when we have to park at the far end of the supermarket car park so that we have enough space to get my wheelchair out of the van.

Ok, here goes. We have an elderly neighbour who lost his wife 10 years ago. We have helped him with shopping, meals out, visited him in hospital etc etc. He has two children and four adult grandchildren who all visit him now and then. They are a lovely family but are totally frustrated by his attitude. He takes no interest in anything they have done (it's not what he did !) Then complains because they don't go to see him. If he needs help he is too stubborn to ask and says that his Mum and Dad never had to ask him to do anything as he looked after them. "Not like his family !"

We have him every Thursday for a game of dominoes, which he loves, but last week he was moaning about his family not doing something and I said "different generation - you need to ask and not be stubborn. He turned on me and said he would not compromise his principles for anyone !

Then on Friday, he met his daughter for lunch. She tried to contact him to see that he got home safely. No reply, so daughter rings me to see if his lights are on. OH and I go into his house to check that he is not there and that he has not fallen. It is now dark and no sign of him, his daughter starts phoning around to see if she can find him. At 7pm he returns home having been to the eye clinic at the hospital. He couldn't be bothered to tell his daughter ! We are all getting annoyed with his attitude and frankly, being pensioners ourselves, do we want this hassle ?

I'm angry that while the nation is glued to 'Bake off' and 'Strictly' or the antics of ridiculously overpaid footballers we are being invaded by people who really hate us, our culture, traditions and religious freedoms.
When the war breaks out, will we simply lock our doors and cower behind our sofas?

Absolutely spot on....!! I find conformity so boring. Having to think and act like everyone else....So shallow and insincere..!! As an ageing individualist, if i`m still around when they begin rounding up the ''non-cons'', and either shunt us all into permanent ''re-education'' camps...or, for the really recalcitrant, involuntary euthanasia....I shall happily proceed to the end of my tenure on this planet, being what i always have been....I even use elastic bands to prevent my socks from sliding off my feet....There...! How gloriously individualistic is that....!!

Celtwitch I had a notification as to a private message from yourself in response to my last remark. As the content was not available for me to view I can only assume that once again the content was totally inappropriate and the editor saw fit to block it. A lot of people have messaged me and agree that your remarks to people are far from polite conversation.
Why would someone who is not a people person join any sort of social media/chat room site...certainly not to be sociable on your part.

The old saying "If you have nothing nice to say then keep quiet" may be something you should apply before typing a message. Perhaps if you tried to be more pleasant you would find you had more friends.

I wish you well Celtwitch, but please do not send me any caustic messages or they will be treated with the contempt that they deserve. I myself as most people on this site joined for pleasure and friendship not to get into needless arguments with strangers, as you seem hell bent on doing.

Just come back from voting today 20/10/2016, the place where the ballot is held has a nice big car park which is well signposted, but a couple of mature people came and parked their car on the main road outside the polling station rather that use the car park, partly blocking the main road, gruur, does age allow you to be ignorant.
Response from jeanmark made on 20th Oct 2016 14:01:48
I think some believe it does. A few years ago a number of us were queuing for a bus, it arrived and this woman pushed herself forward stating she was a pensioner. A young person turned to her and stated she was unaware old age was an excuse for bad manners!

My gripe is political. Let's face it Trump is like a barrow boy, can you imagine him at a Conference of
World Leaders? ? Hillary is not exactly squeaky clean .....yet they have captured the Press and T.V.
and World affairs get's a cursory mention.
Response from happystar made on 11th Oct 2016 10:31:06
Probably the most successful 'barrow boy' the world has ever known, and yes, I can imagine him at a 'Conference of World Leaders.' David Cameron attended such meetings, didn't he, and he has less than a tenth of Trump's charisma and grasp of the imminent dangers that are threatening the free world today.
Response from jeanmark made on 16th Oct 2016 15:27:56
Charisma!!! Two definitions - a compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others or a divinely conferred power or talent. I'm not sure he has either and I certainly do not find him charismatic only an egotistic, arrogant bigot.

I dived into internet grocery shopping today and it will definitely be the first and last time.
I usually walk to the shops a couple of miles away but today I have family coming for the weekend so needed a lot more than usual. What a mistake, I should have spread the shopping over a couple of days and got what I wanted and made sure that it had a reasonable shelf life.
Much of the order only has a couple of days life left so goes out of date while they are here. Grrr, what a waste.
Response from celtwitch Original Poster made on 30th Sep 2016 10:46:19
I sometimes use stuff that is out of date by several days, often weeks! I have a jar of Black Bean Sauce in my fridge that is past its use by date by almost a full YEAR!
Response from Treehugger1 made on 30th Sep 2016 16:15:48
Yes me too celtwitch, i'm very aware of manufacturers wanting to make a profit out of us so shortening product shelf life, but the fruit and veg delivered yesterday looks sad already and that's before it goes out of date.
I'm one of the 'use your eyes and nose brigade' that mostly ignore 'use by' instructions and trust myself more than I do them.
Response from Collie made on 1st Oct 2016 05:11:00
I have used packets of sauce i.e. "sweet and sour" etc. which have been over a year out of date and, we are still here to tell you about it. Also tinned foods, never seem to deteriorate!

When we joined the EU many years ago, this "sell by dating" etc. appeared! Law versus
common sense! I rest my case.

Happy cooking. Collie.
Response from ArchieUK made on 1st Oct 2016 09:39:45
Oh dear Treehugger1, have you taken the goods back to the store for a refund or are you just whinging. Over the last few years I have read this story in a number of places and the victim has never done anything about it, until you do something for yourself nothing will alter.
Response from Treehugger1 made on 1st Oct 2016 16:31:44
I didn't take them back to the store but did phone customer services, have a good grumble and received a refund thanks Archie, but I still won't use them again, as i've had to go shopping today to replace the items which defeated the object of ordering in the first place.
Response from Treehugger1 made on 1st Oct 2016 16:38:26
I'm glad i'm not the only one who ignores dates on tinned goods etc Collie, much to my sister's dismay who throws away anything which goes out of date immediately. When I point out to her that when I was in the TA in the 80s we were eating rations issued in WW11 and came to no harm she refuses to believe me. Silly girl, more money than sense!
Response from jeanmark made on 10th Oct 2016 20:43:04
People shouldn't confuse 'best before' date with 'use by' date.

Best before dates are about quality, not safety. The food typically just begins to gradually lose its flavour and texture after that date, nothing more.

Use by dates refer to safety and applies to food that goes off quickly, such as fish, meat products and ready-prepared salads.

Date marks such as 'display until' or 'sell by' often appear near or next to the best before or use by date. These are instructions for shop staff, not for shoppers.

For more information on best before dates visit the Food Standards Agency guidelines page for more details www.foodstandards.gov.uk. The NHS also has a great guide with detail on food labelling terms which should help prevent so much food wastage.

I get angry at people who believe they know better than the Food Standards Agency, use their nose and end up in hospital!
Response from Treehugger1 made on 10th Oct 2016 20:50:22
Well I have always used my nose and have never ended up in hospital. Also having worked in the catering trade for all my adult life I am extremely cautious and wouldn't take risks.
Response from KEITH_WL made on 10th Oct 2016 21:55:34
Once in the late 1970s or even later an old shopkeeper cleaned out his shop prior to retiring. He gave my wife some large tins of corned beef that had lived in some corner since the war. They were given for the dog, who seemed perfectly well a few days on so I tried some.

It tasted nice and I had no ill effects.
Response from jeanmark made on 14th Oct 2016 18:48:56
Well Treehugger1, having worked in the catering industry you are probably more astute with your nose. However, I worked in Infectious Diseases for 13 years and nursed many a patient that ignored what their nose told them and ended up being admitted and telling us their friend always ignores dates!

I believe common sense should prevail, sadly it is often lacking thus the very large problem with food waste and at the other end of the spectrum when people ignore the obvious and are surprised when they become ill.

Maybe we are both influenced by the careers we were in?

Every morning my youngish neighbour (approx 25) leaves his dog and goes off to work at 8.30am.
The dog howls and barks for approximately 10 minutes before settling down for a while.
Every time the one of flats opens their doors or the outside door, the dog barks and barks for ages.
Every time the postman arrives or a delivery is made the dog barks again.
In fact throughout the very long day this poor dog is left on its own, it will constantly bark and howl.
My neighbour then will return at approximately 5pm sometimes 6.30pm. You would think he would immediately walk the dog. Oh no. He puts her on a lead and takes her to the back of the flats and waits while she wees and clears up her mess if she does no.2. Then she is taken back into her prison for the evening until the next day, when this is repeated. You would think he would walk her at weekends at least, but no. The poor creature is shut in all weekend too. Legally, there is nothing I can do. If I complain to the Landlord I should expect reprisals and if I complain to the RSPCA there is nothing they can do because she is not being physically mistreated, though I think there is a very good case for mental abuse. The poor creature is clearly going out of its mind. Does anyone else have this problem where they live? Surely there must be new laws to prevent this kind of invisible abuse?
Response from JohnHerb made on 16th Sep 2016 14:27:08
happy333. I am very happy you placed this on the forum. It difficult but I think you are duty bound to report this person to the RSPCA even if you do it incognito. That poor dog must be very lonely and should not be left suffering like this. Its good people like you who can help others and animals!
Response from celtwitch Original Poster made on 16th Sep 2016 15:05:35
Another approach might be to offer to doggie sit during the day?
Response from celtwitch Original Poster made on 17th Sep 2016 14:55:01
Have you done anything about this yet?
Response from happy333 made on 18th Sep 2016 12:30:44
Thanks for your reply... I shall indeed have to do something as the poor creature cannot continue to suffer in this way, albeit by neglect. I do not hold out much hope for the RSPCA doing anything though as this is mental, not physical cruelty and they don't help in these incidences.

I am caring for an elderly person presently so am unable to offer any free doggie sitting service for this person, and he is clearly unfit to be a responsible owner, any amount of free dog sitters he gets will not stop the main problem so thanks again... I shall be reporting him.
Response from celtwitch Original Poster made on 20th Sep 2016 09:45:07
What has your Collie history got to do with this poor dog's suffering?
Response from Treehugger1 made on 20th Sep 2016 17:48:31
Unfortunately the RSPCA are, in my experience, not helpful in cases like this. About 9 years ago a neighbour had a GSD chained up outside his house and that poor animal was never walked, shown affection or even allowed into the house; it stayed out unprotected in all weathers. The RSPCA's attitude was that the dog had food and water and was therefore not mistreated.
That poor creature barked and howled constantly and was obviously unhappy, but it wasn't within the RSPCA's remit to intervene. I withdrew my support from them then and will never be persuaded that they have animal's best interests at heart, so i'm afraid the OP might be on a hiding to nothing if they contact them.
Response from jeanmark made on 10th Oct 2016 20:54:25
I have always found the RSPCA helpful for addressing mental neglect as well as physical neglect. But maybe it depends on the area you live in. Have you tried their Head Office to ask what their remit is?
