Has the world became less nice and ethical?

For real, am I just getting old or has the world become unkind. Is it my view only. Do more people just seem out for themselves or am I just noticing it.

I think we tend to notice, in older age, things we would have dismissed as unimportant when younger. For instance, litter and fly-tipping. I am annoyed at the apparent disregard that some people show for the environment, their willingness to throw a half eaten tray of chips over a hedge, or into the gutter, and walk on as though it's the most natural thing to do.
I guess a lot of the litter problems are due to the very many 'fast-food' outlets that now blight our towns ( I wouldn't eat their food, even if it was free!). Have you seen town centres at 6am on a Sunday morning?
Yes, I think the world is becoming less nice, certainly life is now very much more brutish, and now even people in wheel chairs, the blind, disabled and women with babies in prams are seen as legitimate targets for muggers, thieves and attackers.
And, you would need to be very brave or extremely foolish to walk into some areas alone at night, although the government will tell us that there are 'absolutely NO no-go areas in the UK, the truth is rather different. But, but, politicians don't tell lies, do they?
And ethical considerations are often in conflict with the law; some things can be perfectly 'legal' yet ethically, and morally wrong, abortion, for instance, or the imposition of the 'bedroom tax' on people who already have nothing!
The can do it because they have decided that they have the right to do so, but they have brushed aside the morality of doing so as though they were swatting a troublesome fly.
We get the kind of government we voted for, we then have to live with their decisions, no matter how ethically unsound they are.

I agree about the litter and think we need to impose very heavy fines on people who litter. Look at Switzerland no litter at all...the M4 from Heathrow to London has got rubbish all over it-looks terrible. Regarding nogo areas at night yes there are some scary areas but it was like that when I was a lad in the 70s. Skinheads and the like-somethings never change. In 100 years we should have the technology to pre-programme idiots to stop dropping litter or causing mayhem-what a wonderful thought!!

The amount of litter available has increased, or so it seems. I am sure I needed only one bin per week for household waste. Now there are three and that is not enough. Interesting how services are been curtailed when the need is increasing in this and other respects.

I think if anything it is becoming nicer and more ethical especially in places like western Europe, USA, Canada, Oz etc. We hear a lot of nasty things due to the prevalent media-online, TV etc but generally I think the vast majority of people are nice and ethical and care about others and the world we live in

Unfortunately, as all things, this is a matter of perspective, which is contingent upon the area where you reside. The surrounding world(as well the UK and USA) abounds with hate, both racial and/or ethnic. Till we accept ourselves as one race(Human Race)this is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.

Senile-I totally agree but I do not think 99.9 % of people abound with hate. vast majority are good people in my view

I have questioned for years the evolution of attitudes of human beings, from where we have come to where we were headed. There was a time when(society) banded, working as a community through hard times and good. If a family was experiencing financial problems due to sickness and/or lost of a job, we came together to help this family. We helped the disabled, the elderly and in general worked together for the betterment of the community. Today this no longer exists, as most are only interested as to what applies to them. We see this manifest itself in our language (frequent use of profanity), lack of courtesy and respect for others in general. On our highways, in airports, in bus and train stations, it is all about self. The irony of this, no being is an island unto himself, the time comes to all when the help of others is essential to our survival.
