Hashimoto disease - has anyone else experienced it?

I am struggling with the do's and don'ts of Hashimoto's disease... I was diagnosed and given med's around 7 weeks ago, but had to wait a few months for that diagnosis as the bloods have to be taken twice so on and so forth.... anyway, symptoms creep up slowly so you only realise there's a problem when you have become a bit of a wreck.... so anyway, I have seen very little difference in my health since being on levothyroxine and my weight has even gone up, so after researching I see that the 'you can't eat anything' diet has to be tried.. so... no gluten, no dairy, no sugar, NO ALCOHOL and not even bottled water.... OMG, how do I live like that?

So anyway, I have to give it a go to rid myself of brain fog, a swollen tummy after eating, painful knee joints, headaches and this annoying weight gain.... Is there anyone with experience of this caveman diet who has had success with going into remission, because that is my ultimate goal, though I doubt I can give up my tea time alcohol drink, although I have changed my drink from whisky (a big 'no no' on caveman diet) to brandy, but then I have to add tonic water, another 'no no'.... so I have a drink to combat stress... which is the bigger evil? alcohol or stress? we can choose a diet but you can't choose to not have stress. So are there any healthy Hashimoto veteran's out there who are now healthy, slim and off med's due to strict diet?

Sorry Tina, can’t help you with Hashimoto disease, I had to google it as I have never heard of it. After reading your post I commiserate with you the diet sounds pretty awful. Have the medics not give you any advice or sent you to see someone in the dietetic dept.

Hi silverBlue, just typed my reply then lost it all pressing the wrong button... that's brain fog for you 🙂
Anyway, I haven't spoken to a doctor about diet as I don't like to bother them but I will if the symptoms persist and I don't see improvement on the diet ... The tiredness which I forgot to mention is just horrible,
I hit a wall of exhaustion late afternoon or tea time, and all you want to do is sleep, but if you do you feel worse for it.
So I will do my best with the food limitations but gluten free food costs a fortune, and I doubt I can give up my tiny tea time tipple.
I hate the thought of being on med's forever so I am staying optimistic.

I’m trying to get off meds. I had Hashimoto’s for about 8 years. My thyroid antibodies are down to 67. So I can say when they are zero I would be in remission. I eat no gluten or soy. I have a healthy diet. I take Vitamin's.
