Have you been to Russia?

I'm 60 and live in Canada. I'm considering a trip, with my sister, to Finland (1 week), and then 2 weeks in St Petersburg and Moscow. Is there anything that I should be aware of?

I'm not sure, but there have been some cancellation of bans on entry recently for the border entering.

I lived there for about a month and I get the greatest travel experience there due to this Russian language school Moscow http://russian-language-school.com/en/. It's amzing to bond with people from different countries.

As a UK Travel Agent I would advise you to check with whoever you are going to book this trip with if you need a visa for Russia. It is likely that you will. St Petersburg is the MOST incredible city. I was there for three days a couple of years ago having been on a Crystal Serenity Baltic Cruise. SO much to do and see. I have clients who have also done the trip to Moscow and highly recommend it. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you. Apparently the Visa is $50 (CDN) and takes 2 weeks. I'm planning 4 to 7 days in each city. The ruble is so low right now that, other than the trains that I'll take from Helsinki and to Moscow, that hotels, etc. look to be very cheap.

If you like beetroot soup, cabbage and potatoes, if you don't mind seeing drunk as skunks Ruskies falling about all over the place, if you don't mind taking your life in your hands as you attempt to cross the road, if you don't mind being mugged, then Russia could be for you.

I am going on a cruise next year which includes 2days in St Petersburg. The cruise operator will organise visas which i am advised you must have. The thing worrying me is that i cannot stand too long. Anyone been on these trips snd is seating available?

Good morning 'Sanddunes' - as a UK Travel Agent who has also visited St Petersburg and is a cruise specialist hopefully I can assist with a response here. The excursions offered by whichever cruise line you have booked with should have excursions rated on their 'difficulty' level in relation to how strenuous they are. If you look at the excursion explanations it should advise how much walking is involved. Certain ones will of course, involve more walking/standing than others and I would ask you to be cautious as sometimes you may have to queue to get into certain 'attractions' and there will be quite a lot of standing around to take in your surroundings etc. at some of the amazing sights you will experience in this incredible destination. I would suggest that you liaise with your travel agent and/or the cruise line if you booked direct who should be prepared to advise you on this. If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask and I'll help if I can. When I was there I took loads of pics and if you'd like more of a pre-trip insight let me know and I can direct you to my Facebook business page.
