Hello...

I've recently signed up to see what this site is like (so far so good). My interests include Photography, Dogs, Music and staying alive long enough to hit retirement. Currently working in IT & Education which is pretty much a conversation killer at parties :). I have a Bearded Dragon too and a long suffering partner

Hi, I also work in IT and Education, the adult kind though, as an IT Trainer/ learning and development consultant.... I too would love to get the balance right, being self employed though it tends to be feast or famine :-0

I'm a cat person, having bred Persian cats for about 15 years, not so much now though!

Hi dsr. The world of self employment is tough - especially in IT. The cat I would love would be a Maine coon - they look amazing. (Persians can look pretty cool too) 🙂

Yes, contracting doesn't seem to be getting any better, does it! What with IR35, the NHS being scuppered with daily rates, and the possible increase by 6% on corporation tax if Labour get in, I might start to look for a permanent job! Simply won't be worth my while.... sigh!

Main Coons are so laid back! Persians are relatively docile, and often stupid, but I love their loving nature. If I was going for a shorthair, it would be a bengal....

The chances of me ever getting s cat are slim to none unless a homeless Maine Coon turned up on my doorstep

And what would Spike, Blaize and Evie think about having a moggie in the house - not to mention your long-suffering partner!!!! 🙂

Like I said, slim to none 🙂

Hi, is the photo in the Showcase your bearded dragon? He/she looks quite docile but I would hate to have to feed it with live insects - unless they were huge spiders!!! 🙂
Response from ThePrimate Original Poster made on 25th Apr 2017 18:14:38
Yes, that's Spike, he's a rescue Dragon about 7 years old and looks permanently grumpy but is very easy to handle.
Response from CaroleAH made on 25th Apr 2017 18:35:12
Mmmm! Does bite? I suppose, like snakes, he will be warm to the touch but, for me, perhaps best viewed from a distance.
Response from ThePrimate Original Poster made on 25th Apr 2017 19:12:05
No teeth, no vocal chords 🙂 Can feel cool to the touch depending how how long his heat lamp has been on. Enjoys running around the place and likes to hide under the bed. Only poos about once every 10 days and his wee comes out solid too at the same time (to save on water I guess).

Hasn't he any teeth because he's old or don't they ever have them and no vocal chords so he can't even squeak! One might ask - what is the point of bearded dragons? Are they just part of the food chain or do they have some uses? I cannot imagine having one running round the house unless I lived in the tropics and it was eating nasty bugs. 🙂

They don't have teeth. I'm not sure what the point them is but he needed a home & I couldn't say no and he is fairly easy and inexpensive to care for/feed.
He seems happy enough - here's a link you might find interesting

Hi, thanks for the link to the bearded dragon site; it was really interesting and I didn't know that they are originally from Australia and have been smuggled out of there in fairly recent times. I know that the smugglers usually put them in socks and then send them in the post but the Australians have very sophisticated methods of screening suspicious parcels so many of the animals, if they have not already died in transit, are usually quarantined in zoos. (Amazing what you learn watching some day time television!) So lucky old Spike could be with you for quite a few more years scampering under the bed and sunning himself under his lamp if he gets chilly.

He could be yes, he deserves a decent old age
