Hello from Texas

Hello all. I'm a 50 something American girl. I was born and raised in the southern part of the U.S.

I live in Texas which is the size of a small country. I enjoy British history, old British television comedies ("Are You Being Served," "The Last of the Summer Wine"), and British village life in general. As you can probably guess, not many people from Texas enjoy my similar interests.

Of course, not all of my interests relate to Britain. I enjoy gardening, decorating, and thrift shops. Find me an old, dusty book shop and I'm in heaven.

I just thought I would say hello from Texas if anyone is interested in chatting.

Hi Edwardiangirl. I'm also in my 50s and enjoy British TV, not all comedies. I enjoy Blackadder, Sherlock, and, my all time favorite, Downton Abby. I'm mostly lonely and just looking for friendship. I moved to a new community and don't have anyone to talk to. My children live here, but they have their own lives and I would like to chat with someone closer to my age.

Hello EdwardianGirl
I am live in Canada but grew up in England and love all things British.
I binge British shows on Netflix. Thought about getting Acorn but not sure I want the additional cost.
I love to read, especially British psychological mysteries. Give me a new Claire Mackintosh book and I will be a happy camper!
How's the pandemic down in Texas? And were you affected by the storm that cut your power off?
Would love to chat more!

Hello American girl!

I must admit to watching some of the the old comedies on TV, especially "one foot in the grave" as it make me laugh out loud.

It is Saturday morning here and the weekend is starting, by coincidence I am just sending a parcel to the US, no address as going via ebay shipping centre.

Hope you have a Smashing weekend and will look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,
Darren

Hi from Chicago,
I like England. I have been there a few times and still plan to come back. I also watched "escape to the country " as well some other gardening shows from England.

Cheers to everyone

Hi EdwardianGirl,

Fellow Texan here. Also in my 50s. We share a love of Britain. My roots are Scots Irish and England so it's in my genes I guess :).

I am a huge history and archaeology buff. Of both Britain and America. Some of our favorite shows are Time Team on Prime. Lots of historical house makeovers on Prime too. Netflix has/had a show called Escape to the Country we really liked too.

I also love little old Texas towns and exploring their shops.

My husband and I moved here in 2006 but I still feel like a newcomer and outlander... It's been a bit difficult finding long-lasting friends, once my kids grew up. Besides my husband, right now most of my interaction is with the 20 something kids in our family. Which I love, but I miss a friend my age :).

Would love to chat when you're able.

Yes, I have watched "The Vicar of Dibley." Great show. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm afraid my reading tastes would bore many. I love biographies, historical diaries, and classical literature. I also love old ladies magazines from the Edwardian era or earlier. I find these fascinating. I wish I had some.

I do study genealogy. One side of my family is from Scotland and the other from England and Poland. So, it may be genetics. Ha ha.

The Edwardian magazines can be found on eBay or at thrift shops, etc. There is one in particular that was called, "The Lady" that looks most interesting. It was published in England. How fun it would be to flip through the pages of a copy.

Our history in America is still so new. If something is from the 1950's, to us, it is old. You have things dating back several centuries. So, our history, architecture, and literature is still fairly new by historical standards.

I might add, I love all the British comedies. Can't find them anymore, but I have some on the old VCR tapes. A friend made them for me in 2015. I hope to get them converted to dvds soon.

Hello, I live in South Texas. I love to read, and be outdoors as much as possible. I am an active and healthy (mostly) 83 year old. I have 3 dogs and take them for a walk in the woods almost every day. Off leash and they love it. I am new to the site. Haven't been on a chat site ever, but sounded interesting. Thrift shops are heaven, aren't they? I would rather fix something up than buy it new. Crazy! Anyway, if you want to c hat, I am interested. I am an eternal optimist and despite my age, my glass is just about always half full, not half empty. Happy Day, Eyralene.

The British comedies are sometimes hard to follow because things that are funny are many times based on traditions and events that have occurred in Britain. The slang is extremely hard to follow, but I have learned quite a few terms like "nicked," "skint," etc. I find the comedies hilarious.
