Holiday companions

Is anyone interested in forming a friendship with a view to becoming a holiday companion (U.K.) only? Interested in visiting cities and rural scenic destinations.

Hello there, just wondering if you have thought of joining a U3A, most usually have a travel group where you will find like minded people, organised and secure.

Thank you for your suggestion , are you a member? Unfortunately I have heard some negative comments re U3A but of course I shouldn't be judgemental as I criticised others for this elsewhere . Can you please tell me what else their members do ? Thank you.

It wouldn't hurt to go to a first meeting to see if you could get to like it, if you didn't you need never go again, I think with all 'meeting groups' there is probably always one or two that don't get on with other people. I'm not a member as such but did go to an open meeting to see what they do, there are quite a few groups, walking, gardening even knitting.

Hi there, as a founder member of a U3A and former committee member, my experiences have been somewhat different to the norm, however, I would encourage anyone to give their U3A a go, with most organisations there are good and bad aspects. You may just gel with it and gain a lot of enjoyment, if you don't care for crowds, you don't need or have to go to monthly meetings. Each U3A has different groups, always started and ran by members themselves, this can be anything, travel clubs are good, especially for singles, these can vary between travelling abroad or just day trips in this country. Examples of groups are: singing, language, cards, lunch get togethers, dancing, bowling, strolling, walking, theatre. Type in your area and U3A see what they have to offer.
If you find your local U3A has waiting lists, approach National Office (as I did) and try and start a new one. Let me know how you get on scarg.

Hi there Georgie Girl
I have located my nearest meetings for the U3A the subject matters for the next few are not of interest to me , I am currently waiting for a group meeting to be arranged that has been started through contacts on silver surfers , there are around six people interested in an initial meeting once a time and place is agreed, with a view to meeting future holiday companions. Thank you for all the information re U3A.

I don't think so I had a response from water fall and there are seven people interested now from Southern Scotland and the North of England the difficulty is trying to arrange a time and place to meet that is suitable for most people. Where are you from ? If I get any more info I'll let you know.
