Home Meal delivery

I've been looking at home delivery meal services for my dad, does anyone use them or know someone who does? Could I get in touch to ask some questions, find out your opinions?

My neighbour recently
Began to get dementia
Having no family I was giving him
A dinner most days but some days
I wasn't about so I arranged to
Get him meals on wheels
They gave him one little meal
And a sweet everyday no drink
No sandwich for the night
The bill at the end of the month
Was £ 98-00 which I thought was
Extortionate I cancelled it luckily
He now as a career who now
Cooks him dinner comes back
At night gives him some food
And puts him to bed I wouldn't
Recommend meals on wheels
This is in London might be different
In other areas

It's so difficult , there really is a big problem with food for people who need help as you say can be so expensive and also if they forget to drink can get very poorly .

This fella lives in a rented four bedroom town house
With a garage under his house
He is 76 years old with altziemers
The house is to big for him since his
Brother and sister died 16 years ago he's
Been there alone and dementia suddenly
Crept up on him he DOSENT remember
What bank he was at PIN numbers nothing
His bills are mounting up he's totally oblivious
To any think the red tape you have to go through
To get people to help him is ridiculous since January
I've been trying to get him the right help its madness

Have you tried Age UK? They are usually very good in knowing who to contact etc. and can certainly help with identifying your neighbours needs.

Yeah they were good give me a few
Contact numbers but the problem
I've got because he's my neighbour
And I'm not family or his carer
Doctors council hospitals won't talk
To me about him confidentiality as I'm not family
If it wasn't for me he would be dead
As I said I managed to get a man to come
Round and give him some food make sure he washes
And put him to bed not sure how much this is
Gonna cost ain't got a bill yet the local council
Are going to take over his finances but waiting
To get power of eterny takes a long time and
Has to go to court in the mean time bills mount up
Then there's a chance he ain't got that much money
To cover the bills I ain't sure what happens then
He just stands on his door step singing Pavarotti lol

My goodness he really is lucky to have you as a neighbour .

I agree Hammers that Power of Attorney takes time but even when obtained will not necessarily solve the problem of care. Mortisha63 is right, he is lucky to have a neighbour like you. Does he have relatives?

I don't know where you are based but I used Wiltshire farm foods , I think they deliver all over uk . They come frozen but mum had a carer who came in lunch time so would pop it in microwave .

We got these for my mum. Overpriced and unappetising. My aunt is bedridden and her carer, her son, cannot cook. He buys ready meals for 99p. from his local supermarket. They seem to ehjoy them, so, cut down on costs.

My mother enjoyed these for a number of years but they may have changed (she died in 2012). If your nephew manages to get appetising meals for 99p then that seems a good solution but not everyone is so lucky in being able to do this. I agree meals like those supplied by Wiltshire Farms are expensive but I suppose thats the price of having to use a private company. My mother didn't have access to a Meals on Wheels service.

Hi, I've just moved into sheltered housing and knew I had to find someway of eating properly and cooking for one. I have started with Oakhouse foods, very good so far, and because there is meat veg and potatoes of some kind, I feel like I have eaten a proper meal. Delicious desserts too.

what I did was make more and freeze it, corn beef ash, lobby, casserole's, pies etc, then take them to my Mum for her freezer, to which her carer placed them in microwave, I, at least knew she was getting good nourishment and she lived to 87, still missed now 4 years on, otherwise they sell good dinners and deserts in most supermarkets who will deliver and even place them in the freezer for him, lot cheaper and chosen by your Dad, might be an idea ???
