Husband with Dementia

I put my husband after 7 years, in assisted living in May. It was the hardest thing I've had to do.

I feel so lonely. He sits in his chair and eats.

I want to know someone else like me ...thanks

Hi DeeDee

I am sorry to hear your news. My wife was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers back in December 2019 at the age of 56. She is still living at home and I am still working full time as well as being her carer (we also have an autistic son so life can be a bit of a challenge) but I don't know quite how long we'll be able to continue with that situation. Dementia is terribly cruel isn't it? My wife used to be an accountant and now she can't add two numbers together.

Are you in any dementia-related support groups, or in touch with the Alzheimers Society?

Best Wishes, Dave (Grognard)

Hi DeeDee
Sorry to hear that you had to put your husband in an assisted living facility after many, many years. I am sure it was one of the most difficult situations that you have had to face in your lifetime.
My husband passed away a while back and although it’s not quite the same situation for you, your husband that you once knew and loved is no longer there ….
I hope you find others on this forum that are in a situation similar to what you’re experiencing … it can be quite lonely out there ….
You may want to try and connect with other woman coming to assist their loved ones in the facility, women in your neighbourhood that you can join for coffee or join a book club. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am assuming he will not miss you and staff will feed him if you are not there.
Above all, be kind to yourself ….
