I am new to all this - looking for like minded members

I thought after I retired last year that I would find myself something to do that would take me out of home and meet up with people. As we all know it is difficult to find such a thing with the pandemic all around us.

My wife passed away in 2019 and I don't have much in the way of family near where I live in semi-rural Lancashire.

I believe I have had an interesting life. I did many jobs when I was younger until I settled on social work and qualified for this after some non-qualified, but nevertheless interesting, work in social care. I moved over to working in adult education after a time which enabled me to travel around the north-west. I miss the journeys I used to take with my late wife. We went around the UK finding out-of-the-way places to walk, enjoy the scenery and observe the wildlife.

I always find things to do as I don't like just sitting around. I have brought my garden up to the standards that my late wife always used to. I like walking (although I can't get as far as I used to) and my hobbies include photography. I don't feel lonely as such but I do miss the companionship and realise that we never make as much of this as we should.

I wold like to communicate with like minded people.

Hi Paul

Sorry for your loss. It is extremely difficult to lose the love f your life and facing the future alone. Glad to see you are looking for interests of your own too, that don’t hold memories.

Wishing you the best

I am just in the ready to retire phase and as a farmer I am in rural life. I have lots to do, but sometimes find life is to fast for me. City friends are up on all the technical connections but I am not. I love to see things they miss. Like the other day on a trip to the back of the farm, I saw a doe and two fawns. But as a farmer I have missed social connection and am not sure who will understand my way of life. I am in Northern Ontario,Canada. But feel like I understand this story,

Hi KAZ04. I live in east Lancashire but know Cumbria well as it's one of my most favourite places to travel around. In fact I have planned a trip to Maryport in the near future. Although a 3 hour journey it is well worth it to see the scenery and enjoy my memories. I am lucky in one way that I can get around those places that remind me of good days.

I do miss companionship. Just having someone there to feel comfortable with both when being active or to relax with and laugh about the crazy world we live in. It certainly is not what I expected when I was younger when I thought getting to my age would be the end of all things. I believe I still have another chapter in life to live.

Anyway, I would like to chat with you if you want to share your thoughts.

hi Paul , thanks for your reply , not that familiar with Mayport but have lived and or worked in quiet a few Cumbria towns including Windermere, Kendal , Ulverston , Carlisle and now live and work in Barrow .
I totally know what you mean , I'm not looking for a relationship I've had enough of those , I'm happy with my life and my now humble home and have a few friends but they all have there own lives and family to do things with . I like you would just like some company now and again to share a coffee and a chat , a day trip maybe and yes someone Who I can be yourself with would be good.
If you let me know when you are travelling to Mayport maybe we can meet for a coffee and chat. I work full time as it gives me something to do but can also usually get some time off too.
hope to hear from you soon karen

Hi again Karen. When I joined this site I did not know what to expect. I was surprised to get any response let alone one as positive as yours. The last few years have knocked my confidence a bit so it was very pleasant to communicate warmly with another person. Like you many of my friends have got on with their own lives and, particularly through the various lockdowns, have had other things to think about. I have given your suggestion of meeting up for coffee a lot of thought over the past 24 hours. Barrow is not too far away and well worth a trip for the possibility of making a new friend. I would though not want to disappoint you as real life is often different than the on-line version. I will give this some more thought and perhaps we can continue to communicate on-line and find out a little more about each other? If you are up for this we could perhaps transfer or communications to the 'chat' section of the site. Please don't mistake my caution for lack of interest as it is more to do with my own feelings. One part of me would get in the car a meet with you tomorrow. Anyway, sorry for the long explanation but honesty is one of the most important things to me. Paul.

hi paul , thanks for the reply , yes honesty is always good and thanks you for your kind words . I am nothing special I am just down to earth , say what I think and think I am easy to get om with and also get on with most people.
A meet would be good but no rush and it doesn't have to be barrow i drive and like a gentle walk and a chat in different places away from home.
I don't come on here every day but will try to reply when I can .
Are you into the football ..... they are doing very well so far !
all for now karen
