Hello Smithy57 and welcome to Silversurfers. A good tip on how to get involved on our site is to take a look at Current Topics in our Forum and feel free to engage in anything that takes your interest. We also have a very active Speakers Corner section where you may find something that interests you. https://www.silversurfers.com/speakers-corner/ and if you would like to join the discussion on the challenges of self-isolation then here's where to go: https://www.silversurfers.com/silversurfers-forum/topic/daily-diaries-of-those-who-are-self-isolating-due-to-coronavirus/

I hope you enjoy being part of our community.

hello I am new here as well

I have tried other sites but the least said about that the better

I just want to talk with people from different places about anything really
Response from Lionel made on 10th Mar 2020 22:05:47
Jon, the best way to get to know people is to get mucked in with Speakers Corner articles and these forums. Just get stuck in, mate. If you post somewhere I'll look out for you; just reply to something, we're a good natured lot on here, broad shoulders. Enjoy it all.
Response from Jon155 made on 13th Mar 2020 21:00:27
Thanks for the advice Lionel
I'll give it a go

I’m new to the site. Live in Texas. If anyone is visiting Texas, I can make suggestions. I’d like to find someone to travel to Germany and Switzerland with.

Hi - I’m new and like others I used to be with sagazone and made some great friends.

I am based in Edinburgh and wondering if there are many Scots already online? If so I would love to hear from you.
Response from LuckyOne made on 23rd Feb 2020 17:56:39
I'm new too. I'm also a Scot. This forum seems to be for beginners so I'm going to do a bit of exploring and learn how to use the site properly. Before I go - are there any S.Surfers from North Norfolk on here? I used to live and work in London, then retired to Sussex but I'm now very happy living in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Norfolk.

The overnight hours are torture. The silence is awful.

I live alone and I'm housebound with agoraphobia - 22 years, now! I have no way to make friends. I have nothing I'd usually call friends, now, because they have little/no idea how to be real friends...they just think that they know. The real type of friend seemed to die off around 40 years ago. Now, people just fake being friends, and my phone never rings, but they always ring me if they.......have a problem.

Family is out, for me, because my family is as dysfunctional as I am and overnight?...nobody thanks you for calling them. I'd be more likely to get my head bitten off for phoning family on such terribly lonely nights.

I wish computers could "magic" up new friends for me and get them to knock on my door!
Response from Dani made on 11th Feb 2020 10:57:17
Oh how horrible for you Ian.
I’m a bit of an insomniac since my husband died...I wake up and sling an arm over the bed to find no one there...then it’s tears and tea, the paper or a book, prayer and thoughts.
No, you can’t pick up the phone, can you? You could try writing an email expressing your feelings and then expect a reply in the morning. At least you could have an outpouring of sadness that someone will respond to.
My heart goes out to you.
Dani

Hi Ian

Sorry to hear your sadness. I don't know if you have come across Silverline but they are a helpline a bit like the Samaritans and are there all time of the day or night if you want to chat. Their number is

0800 4 70 80 90
Response from PatriciaB96 made on 15th Feb 2020 19:24:01
Good evening that's quite sad actually , having no proper friends , we all get that some times , many of us would only to glad to say hello , good luck in finding one true friend x

Joined today but didn't realize until I got into this site that most are either from Canada or Great Britain. I'm American so hope it doesn't disqualify me (33% Irish and 50% English decent so does that qualify???) LOL
Response from PatriciaB96 made on 10th Dec 2019 21:50:56
Good evening and welcome to the site kayeD I hope you will make lots of new friends with the same interest as you
Response from Ready2Travel made on 4th Feb 2020 03:29:38
Hi KayeD. I also am from the US, California to be specific. I joined without realizing it was largely people in England, but I was hoping to meet some other ladies who wanted to travel but didn’t want to do it alone. I travel with friends sometimes, but they’re not always available or interested in the same trips as I am. Best of luck connecting with new “friends” and perhaps travel buddies!
