I'm New Here

I have just joined this forum and my initial reaction to its following is one of amazement: not only the variety of interests but the geographical diversity of its contributors. For myself, I am an eighty three year old, having retired at fifty three I have recently celebrated my thirtieth anniversary as a retiree.

I live on Vancouver Island, arriving here on January first 1990. I retired from a career which included the Navy followed by a civilian career as an airline pilot. Long divorced from a wife of thirty one years, my wife and I have three middle aged children all of whom also live on Vancouver Island. I busy myself making physical art pieces in wood, mechanism as art, designing the parts and using a Co2 laser to cut them out followed by finishing them carefully before assembly. I also maintain a couple of classic cars and happily fix and make things for friends.

My single greatest difficulty is loneliness, I live alone and spend a great deal of time alone; a circumstance exacerbated, of course, by Covid-19. Reading some of posts on this site and as expected, many of you are doing your best to cope with the same isolation. My wish for each of you saddled with this solitude is that, perhaps, you may find each other or, at the very least, find some solace in written exchanges with others. Per Ardua ad Astra.......

Yes, it’s lonely but hang on in there...there’s a comfort in knowing that so many of us are in the same boat!
