Immigration - what are your views?

A recent global survey by the ultra left wing Amnesty International, suggests that 80% of people are in favour of further immigration, with many stating that they would willingly take migrants into their homes! I wonder where they found their survey respondents as the recent rape and sexual assault epidemic in Sweden,Norway, Germany, Italy, France, plus the grooming gangs outrage in the UK, and all committed by members of the 'religion of peace' should be sufficient for more than '80%' of Europeans to say, 'no thank you, it's not worth the risk.' There are some 800, 000 economic migrants, some with highly contagious diseases, queuing up in Libya and waiting for a boat to bring them to Italy. Do we want these people in Europe, or here in the UK, can we afford to house them, feed them, give them healthcare, AND accommodate their misogynistic, cultural and religious needs, without diminishing ourselves as a sovereign nation. The EU are now telling US that we need to build nearly 250,000 houses to meet the demand from migrants, asylum seekers, and the world's flotsam and jetsam! It sounds like a dystopian nightmare, and it is nothing less than that. It is madness on a monumental scale that shows no sign of letting up, I didn't expect to see this happening in my country in my lifetime. What do you think?

How I agree with you both. We should stop this madness letting all and sundry come into both this country and as Europe as a whole. I hate to think what the future will hold for my grandchildren and great grandchildren etc. Europe will be changed out of all recognition as will Great Britain. Already some parts of this country are nothing like it was, and certainly not like England. I feel I am so lucky as I live in a part of England that is still more or less as it always has been. No mosques for a start. We do have some Eastern Europeans but they do not seem to want to change our country completely. The courts should stop all sharia courts completely for a start. Seeing what is happening in various European countries it is really worrying, and it would seem it is politically incorrect, and racist to criticise these immigrants and the awful things they are doing. It is being suggested in certain quarters it is Europe's fault because of our way of life and we should change to the way the immigrants live. No way, we have fought for our freedoms and should not give them up for a handful (well getting rather more than a handful) of people who want a completely different way of life.
I do have friends who came here from other parts of the world as migrants and they are also horrified by what is happening now.

I agree with your comments, I think we should start first by voting out of the EU then leave the European Human Rights and finally beef up our borders security.
These three measures will solve the problem then we let in who we want and deport who we want it's our country our borders our people and our freedom are at stake if we don't .

There is a huge movement of populations just starting. This has happened many times throughout history and when it has occurred it has been unstoppable. Climate change will submerge Bangladesh for instance and that's a very poor and highly populated country. What do you think is going to happen to them? Since it is the creation of the good life that we lead that has caused this problelm, we have a huge responsibility to assist those suffering from it.

The 'Syrians aren't coming here' approach just doesn't get it! We are going to need all our skills and rational thinkiing to deal with what is inevitably going to happen in the coming years.

We have to plan for the fact that our grandchildren are going to live this nightmare. ONLY successful international co-operation has a faint chance of steering us away from the worst outcome.

Foodbanks are NOT caused by immigrants! They are the result of benefits agencies having TARGETS for 'sanctioning' the poor and illiterate (online only or expensive telephone access to Benefits Agencies not available if you are very short of money), the sick (can be 'sanctioned' if attending hospital or even in-patient)etc etc.

All the econmoic ills in this country are still the result of the financial crash which is still being dealt with unintelligently by politicians who are prejudiced against public services.

I find this a very difficult issue. There doesn't appear to be any distinction between economic migrants and refugees fleeing a war zone although I do believe that if a person reaches a place of safety and refuses to stay in that country they are no longer a refugee.

No, I would not open up my home to a migrant any more than I would open up my home to someone who is homeless (for what ever reason). That doesn't mean I do not sympathise with their plight but surely we have an obligation to care for 'our own' first. We have many desperate and homeless people that we appear unable to help and an economy that constantly squeezes the life out of public services.

I don't subscribe to the thought that all migrants and asylum seekers have criminal intent or are going to bring diseases we don't already have. Many just want a safer and better future for their families but they should accept the culture of the country they move to, although I would not expect them to change their religious beliefs unless by choice. I do support the belief we do not have the capacity to continually allow more and more refugees into the country and should only consider economic migrants if they offer us skills we need - I do not include 'cheap labour' into that.

I would hope that I am a compassionate person and I am distressed by the suffering we are constantly shown but agree that it is madness on a monumental scale that shows no sign of letting up.

Hi All

In my view, people come here because as a people we are compassionate, democratic and have services that provide care .

I think we still need to offer refuge to those in need but equally we need to tackle the corrupt governments and lack of democracy in other countries. Even those in the EU fall short .

We give a great deal of money in aid to African countries but the money does not go to those in need because the government and other services are corrupt.

Our government is always saying we benefit economically from immigrants who do the jobs that we do not want to do but if we paid a reasonable wage for these jobs, unemployed natives of this country would do them. Not everyone wants a career.

The lack of British doctors, nurses and many other professionals is the result of our education system . British children and some of their parents wear their lack of education , like a badge of honour.

We really need to inspire our children to achieve and to fill the gaps . We need to bring back long apprenticeships where people can get to go to college and also train with experienced workers. We need to encourage people in this country to start businesses, run shops and be creative.

We need to decide really what is our culture and ensure this is not eroded. It is not people coming to this country that erode our culture it is ourselves!

When I speak to my London friends of all ages, they have no idea about our historical traditions, folk music etc.

If we truly are a multi cultural society we need to ensure we first know our own traditions (which is not just football ,drinking and fish and chips!). as in France or Italy.

Other countries have very definitive cultures, we do too, but perhaps we just do not care enough about who we have been and who we are now, as a country. We have a rich culture but we seem to lean on our default of meaningless "stuff" to describe ourselves which I do not relate to at all.

I have worked with clients who have been in this country for 15 years and still can not speak the language. These are not people who want to assimilate into our culture .

I really care and want to help others who are suffering but I would like us to stop trading with countries which are corrupt or have poor human rights . I definitely do not want to fund corrupt often rich countries.

Equally, if someone comes to our country and breaks the law in any way , they should be sent back to their country of origin.

It is the lack of control over the levels of immigration which I find particularly worrying. Freedom of movement around the EU makes any attempt to govern numbers of people entering this country impossible. Without the ability to calculate how many migrants will be entering the country it is impossible to create an infrastructure of housing and services which adequately supports both them and UK citizens. Do I believe we should take our fair share of refugees? Of course I do. Do I believe immigration is a good thing? Yes I do, but the levels have to be set by a UK government elected by UK voters, that's the democratic way. Immigration and emigration have served us well in the past and there are many benefits of living in a multicultural society, but, in my view, the current free for all benefits nobody in the long term and will create further problems not only here but throughout Europe in the future.

At school we were taught that refugees should seek help in the first safe country they arrived at so why are Europe insisting we offer asylum to all and sundry. Australia and New Zealand are aware they are separate countries and do not automatically have the right to live in either place despite sharing a language. They both operate an immigration system that requires immigrants to have jobs or be workers in businesses where the local population can't fill the vacancies. Why can't we do the same? Sorry, I forgot. We can't do it because the elected government is ignoring our wishes and doesn't govern the country. They are just yes-men of Europe who insist they can change Europe from within the European Community but fail dismally.
