What kind of travelling do you like?

Hello. How much do you use social media when looking for information about travelling and holidays? I am 65 and use Facebook and sites like Silversurfers to find out more information. Do you still use traditional ways to get information? I used to read physical brochures but now I am more online and reading reviews etc. I also share pictures from my trips on Facebook. How about you? Do you feel that you have kept up with the younger ones and have started to use social medias? I also use forums like this one to find out what destinations are interesting and hearing stories from my friends and family. I am interested in food, culture and photography when going travelling. For me safety and interesting cultures are also important.

We don't use Facebook at all however we do look at reviews on Tripadvisor. OK, some reviews to be taken with a pinch of salt, but they do give a general indication of how good or bad something is.

We prefer to make all our own arrangements and not travel with a group. We like to be spontaneous and usually have little more than a vague idea of where we might go.
We don't have "smart phones" or Satnavs - just a map and maybe a tourist guide. We tend to avoid the "must see" places and look for things off the beaten track. It's worked well for us over many years.

We're both in our late 60's now, but haven't lost the spirit of adventure. It's probably even stronger now. The younger ones can do whatever they like. We don't need their social media or have our heads glued to a phone. We're having too much fun.

Hi,
I am a newbie to this site and thought I would check it out.
63 year old straight male, based in Swansea. Missed out on travel in my twenties but now intend to rectify this. I have lived for a while in the middle east and found it interesting but now want to see places further afield.
Took the plunge three years ago with a trip to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. I loved it. Booked my flights using the internet and found some good deals. Its so much easier now all the information is available on the net.
In August I visited Singapore, Malaysia , Thailand and Cambodia and found it fairly straightforward to book hotels on the go, so that i could change plans if needed.
One of the pitfalls with Solo travel is that there is no one to share the experience with and maybe its time to share the adventures.
Hotels are relatively inexpensive once you get to Asia and so no need to share.
I plan to visit Asia again in february for about a month and would welcome a travelling companion, and could even act as a tour guide for a first timer to Asia

contact me if you need any further infomation/

I look online and in brochures but as a single traveller the options are reduced.
Many people on silver surfers are requesting travel companions but it seems impossible to arrange meetings in advance due to distance between interested parties.
If any one has a solution as to how this could be overcome I would be happy to hear it, Thankyou.
