My latest kitchen gadget. A digital pressure cooker

It took a whole lot of soul searching. Um'ming and ah'ing and watching the Shopping channel before I eventually bought one.


But I've got to honestly say, I'm glad that I did.. It really does cook the most amazing stews, risottos, roasts. All comfort food that we love. And a chicken tikka masala too die for!


It has preset settings for different types of food and best of all. It turns itself off when the jobs done. They are not cheap but the amount of use ours gets makes it worthwhile. It steams vegetables and cooks rice, all in no time at all.

Sounds great but can you do small amounts for one or do you end up freezing some? Things sometimes don't taste the same after freezing and defrosting.
I have a soup maker that makes soup in about 30mins.which is good but still not as good as in a saucepan where the flavours have time to develop.

Actually, I have found exactly the opposite. I’ve noticed some that my cooking actually improves after a little maturing. And who doesn’t want to just be able to ladle out some delicious ready made beef stew. Surely, enjoying ‘seconds ‘ or leftovers is far better than starting all over again from scratch.. and let’s face it, these days, the supermarkets refuse to acknowledge the concept of selling ‘one meal portions’! Trying every trick in the book to get you to buy more than you really need.

No problem. I fully understand your point of view. Some people cook one meal at a time. Some like me prefer mountains of food you can just dig into whenever you feel like it.

I cook a whole chicken in it, then brown/crisp it off in the halogen oven. I never have any doubts about it being cooked through after . And its deliciuosly moist and tender, with lovely stock for my next soup or gravy.

Just a quick FYI...when you wash the pot, put a soup ladle or spatula in your cooker until you replace the pot. Nothing is worse than the mess you have when you put in all your ingredients and the pot is in the drainer. Guess it is a fairly common mistake. I ended up replacing my pressure cooker because I was concerned about all the gunk on the circuit board. The manufacturer did recommend replacing it.

I bought myself one for Christmas and I am totally sold on it. I have used it almost every day since I bought it. Have made lots of soups for lunch at work, made lots of batches of yogurt which is amazing and far better than bought, cooked a whole chicken and made risotto, stews and spaghetti bolognese. All delicious and really quick
