I would like to make new friends for general conversation only

I have recently moved to a new home, and I feel very isolated where I am living not knowing many people here. I would very much like to make and chat with some new friends.  Is there anyone else in the same situation?

I am in the same boat. I have moved to Tennessee from NJ and making friends is not as easy as one would think in the south. Is it because I am not part of a couple? Didn't have a problem at home. Very lonely - I have put out the effort, but no one seems interested in making a new friend. I live in a neighborhood - not islolated. When I moved in my real estate agent invited my neighbors to a "welcome to the neighborhood" get together - food, etc. No one came.

Good evening 'Moodyblue'. Just a short month or so I could easily have chosen a very similar 'moniker' as I was suffering depression, my elder sister having suffered a long painful death from cancer in February. After her funeral in March, I was starting to get myself (with the aid of my doctor) when along came Covid19! However, the lift in the weather [and having regained a lost contact with a marvelous lady!] I have been on the way back up again.
I'm 81 - 82 in June, and whilst my sister was suffering, I started to realise just how small my circle of friends had become over the years; for some odd reason many old friends, even acquaintances, were vanishing one by one! So I've decided to start over, and build a new social circle, though it seems of necessity to be by social media!
Where did you move to - and from where?

Hi. I am very new to this. would just like to have a pleasant conversation with pleasant people. I am 61 years young and still working. My two sons live in different states. by the way I am from California. in the old days there were just simple chat rooms and I could figure that out. that was 20 years ago. older and not a big fan of pcs. so a babe in the woods as one might say. with work do not come on often, but am hopeful. hope all is good and you are safe. have a great evening and will check later

Hi, I have just joined this evening and would love to chat to anyone interested. I am 64 young at heart Lady, recently moved to Lincoln, retired and owner of a Coton de Tulear dog. I don’t have family nearby except a busy daughter. I find the evenings very long and don’t want to just watch the TV. I would love to hear about yourself. Thanks

Hello Redsurfer and welcome to Silversurfers. A good tip on how to get involved on our site is to take a look at Current Topics in our Forum and feel free to engage in anything that takes your interest. We also have a very active Speakers Corner section where you may find something that interests you. https://www.silversurfers.com/speakers-corner/ and if you would like to join the discussion on the challenges of self-isolation then here's where to go: https://www.silversurfers.com/silversurfers-forum/topic/daily-diaries-of-those-who-are-self-isolating-due-to-coronavirus/

I hope you enjoy being part of our community.

Hello Redsurfer
I have just joined also.
Assuming you mean U.K., I live near Lincoln and also have a dog - a little dog - Maltese/Cavalier.
I miss walking round Lincoln parks, I must say.
I have no family and on my own. Not always easy is it? You just have to adapt, I guess, but it exposes the lack of family at times like the present.
How is everyone coping with lockdown? I’ve been catching up with the DIY jobs - do it yourself rather sums it up!
Anyway, I’m new here so a big ‘hello’ to everyone. Hope to chat soon.

HI, I am facing retiring after a very consuming job of teaching Orchestra in the Public Schools for 30 years. I started teaching late, so that brings me to a healthy, active, mind and body young-at-heart 77. I say, facing retiring, because I haven't wanted to let go of my job which I love. However, Corona has brought me to my knees and I'm saying "Uncle". I'm done, and am using the Corona shut-down to start my new life with online violin teaching, online languages, this chat-room, reading, writing my life-story, etc. When we're back to normal, I will visit our Senior Community Centers, and back to church, and choir, etc. My daughter and son-in-law, also musicians, are presently living with me, luckily., and their dog. So, I'm a pretty happy camper with the shelter-in-place of California.

In spite of my ability to keep myself connected and active, I find living alone really hard, especially at this age, when, our options seem limited. Not for activity, but for relationship. I miss conversation, hugs, family around me in my home. I can only get a small pet in my present home, and I like big dogs, so, I don't know...

Would love to chat with similar aged people, any State, California would be nice, and the Bay Area really nice! And very interested in Scotland, as I am half-Scottish. My grandparents were born about 15 miles south of Glascow. I have never been, but, on my Bucket list.

Here's to chatting! Shelley

Good evening Shelley and welcome to Silversurfers. I have been on here quite a few years and there are lots of very friendly folk on here who are always up for a chat. Scotland is the most beautiful place. In my youth I did a lot of climbing on the mountains of the west coast which are mystical and resound with wild places and beautiful lochs (lakes). All the best, Wilf

Is anyone else not looking forward to this Christmas? This will be my first on my own as husband in Care and family spending time away. I dont want to be a nuisance or burden to anyone so am trying to be outwardly cheerful and optimistic, but privately the whole prospect of the Day is depressing. Live South Dorset and would love to chat.
