Maldives warning (lohis rip off)

Apologies if you’re not a surf based reader! We have just tried to book to go back to this island for the 8th time. We enquired for the first two weeks of October, found a really good price that matched their 3 star offering as a resort. £4400 for two adults and 1 baby 14 nights. Last year we had an awesome time although the waves only existed for 4 of our 16 nights but hey that’s surfing. Im not a great fan of privatising waves but something had to be done on this resort and a fair few years ago, to stop 100's of surfers being in the water and the associated punch-ups, they introduced a 45 surfer cap and charged a daily fee of $50 a day to surf. It was acceptable and really worked to keep the line-up safe and made sure everyone had a good time. Last year was no different but this year they state that you have to book though one of their dedicated surf agents which on the face of it you would think carries a few hundred pounds of a premium which would fund the third party agents operating costs. However i soon found out to eat the same food, stay in the same rooms, travel on the same transfer, have the same resort service would now cost me for the exact same dates as I’ve stated above a staggering £7700. So doing simple math makes the cost of taking a surfboard onto the island walking down and jumping into Mother Nature with it a staggering £3300 or £235 per day more. If its flat or very poor surf you still pay. They even have the audacity to charge you more to go to the other waves around the islands! I have contacted the resort direct with regard this and the surf agents all of which pretty much have palmed me off. If that’s the management’s decision they have just lost a very dedicated regular customer of the last 8 years. Such a shame when corporate greed spoils such a lovely part of the world and disregards loyalty which I’m sure is what builds brands, well at least it does in my businesses! If you have got that amount of money you can go to the Mentawis and stay in plush real 5* resorts for less than they want for this one. Its not as glossy as you might be lead to believe 3* at best with tired rooms and mediocre repetitive food we just went back as it suited our needs. If there were no surf on the island I would never even entertain it. Im expecting some generalised management response which does not address any of the points in a factual explanatory manner. Which will just prove that they do not care and have lost their way as a brand and as a resort. World safaris (main surf agent based in Aus) and errant surf (uk surf agent) should be ashamed of themselves for even entertaining such pricing and it’s as much to do with their greed as it is Adaaran. World surfaris have a good ‘brand image’ for surf travel but seeing this example I would be checking elsewhere before booking with them for any of their destinations. When I contacted world surfaris their response was one of not really caring in fact they are actively working with lohis island resort according to the email I received. Hope this was informative and please all surfers think twice it’s really not worth the money plenty of other places round the world you can go for far less money and the same quality if not better waves. RLZ is awesome and worlds apart from Lohis resort.
