Male company

How do I find a kind man locally to share time with. I feel I shouldn't really be asking this as I'm 78 but I do miss male company and it would be lovely to meet someone.

Why shouldn't you be asking this question? Okay, once we get to 75 and above we are all, like it or not, in the last quarter of our lives but that doesn't mean that we have to hibernate. I have plenty of female friends but sometimes it is nice to get a male perspective on things. I'm very wary of dating websites ever since I saw an ex-partner describing himself as empathetic (hmmmm - the jury's out on that one), and being a keen rock-climber and canoeist. In the ten years that I was with him he never once set foot in a canoe and as for rock-climbing - he didn't like heights. Perhaps they are dating-site euphemisms for some dubious activity but more likely that he had seen some poor victim's profile who liked doing either/both of these things and thought that he would stand a better chance of success if he listed the same sporting activities. I think it's far better to meet people in a safe environment like the U3A, volunteering, other interest groups or church and let friendships grow naturally.
