Would you move out of London to the countryside or stay in the city?

Moving home is always a difficult thing to do, especially if you are living in London. I was looking up some options for moving out to the countryside and found that Colne Valley or Ickenham, looked interesting as it's still close to the city. What do you guys think?

I agree with Yodama - it all depends on what you want out of life. If you want theatres, cinemas, shops, opera, ballet etc on the doorstep then you will need to live in or in close proximity to a city. However, if you want to be part of a community, like peace and quiet and wonderful views etc, then the countryside is appealing. I think that as we get older we need to think about the distance to the nearest doctor, pharmacist and hospital because we might need them more often. Many years ago some friends of my parents went to live in the far north of Scotland near to John O'Groats. They boasted of the fabulous views, the fact that they could leave their cottage unattended and unlocked all day and no burglars sneaked in but then when their dog was ill, it was a 60 mile trip to the vet and when the wife fell and broke her ankle she had to be airlifted to hospital which was a 3 hour drive away. A large village/small market town would seem to be the ideal compromise as there are usually good transport links for buses and trains to take you to the city if necessary but you can retreat to relative peace and quiet of home after you have had your "fix" of city life.
