Music and lyrics

When music and lyrics come together to make something just wonderful πŸ™‚

With my eclectic taste spanning the 50's to the present day, I'm spoilt for choice, so starting way back with The Platters -

The Great Pretender

One of their best

Only You - Though I did love Roy Orbison's version just as much πŸ™‚

A little smoke in your eye's always a good excuse πŸ™‚

My Prayer only matched by Roy Orbison but still will opt for this version

one in a million πŸ™‚

I'm blessed with more than my fair share of those πŸ™‚

ending with a little Twilight time πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I do like a song with meaningful lyrics but I would be hard pressed to think of a single one that resonates with me right now - maybe Bowie: Changes, or SPG: Transform. So I will enjoy seeing what else you upload!
Response from Happy Hippie Original Poster made on 26th Oct 2020 15:31:48 > @Mosquito

My Dad More country and Roy Orbison mosquito, I Thank my Mum for The Platters and rock'n'roll :), but then my Mum loved everything up to and including The Rocky Horror show πŸ™‚
Response from Mosquito made on 25th Oct 2020 19:09:21
I love The Rocky Horror Show! I have just discovered, during this most interesting of times, a band called Steam Powered Giraffe and am amazed they are not more popular - their lyrics and harmonies are (in my opinion) fantastic!
Response from Happy Hippie Original Poster made on 25th Oct 2020 20:26:51
Given all that's out there Mosquito Think we will never stop finding something new πŸ™‚ Vaguely remember seeing that name somewhere will have to look them up, maybe from a show or something, My Mum loved the Rocky Horror show and i took her to see it twice, She even had a poster signed by the original cast, Something my oldest now treasures πŸ™‚
Response from Mosquito made on 25th Oct 2020 21:15:15 > @Happy Hippie
Wow! The poster is truly something to treasure - I never made it to an actual live performance of the Rocky Horror Show - must rectify that someday. I had the soundtrack and used to play it endlessly! I got classical, opera and musicals from my mum and then I discovered rock ...
Response from Happy Hippie Original Poster made on 25th Oct 2020 21:29:00 > @Mosquito
It's a must-see Mosquito πŸ™‚ Audience participation makes the show, though i think they limit it these days lol my mum loved all and used to assign music tracks to each of us πŸ™‚ one of mine being, Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd πŸ™‚ still my N0 1 to this day πŸ™‚ Mum loved Boston too, especially The Album Boston by Boston πŸ™‚
Response from Mosquito made on 25th Oct 2020 22:00:26 > @Happy Hippie
That is such a great thing to do - assign tracks to each of you. Is that something you have done with your children too? I am going to do that with mine, I think. If you assigned a track to yourself, what would you choose? I am afraid my Lynyrd Skynyrd knowledge is limited to Sweet Home Alabama, and my Boston to - More than a Feeling, although they are both great tracks.
Response from Happy Hippie Original Poster made on 25th Oct 2020 22:05:06
Yes i have Mosquito πŸ™‚ they also grew and took on my eclectic taste in music too lol πŸ™‚ along with my love of art history and the great outdoors :), my mum taught us all to be independent, and they all sure that lol πŸ™‚
Response from Mosquito made on 25th Oct 2020 22:47:46 > @Happy Hippie
No wonder you are a happy kind of a hippie! Almost sounds like you are describing my children! I feel like I hijacked your post a little - it looked like you were starting with The Platters and quite probably heading somewhere else before I jumped in? So I guess it is over to you again to continue the musical journey.
Response from Happy Hippie Original Poster made on 25th Oct 2020 23:13:20
Not at all Mosquito πŸ™‚ was intending to add more to the list as and when, work 12-hour hospital shifts, and this my long week as i work fixed 5-2 patten, was thinking where possible and i can find lyrics to post different artist and for me their best work each time πŸ™‚
