Need a new camera - any advice?

Hi all you lovely talented silversurfer photographers, I've had to send my camera back for a refund as it's been playing up for a wee while and I'm now looking for a new one but I'm undecided what to go for so if any of you have one that you would recommend I'd be grateful for any advice.

I use a Canon Ixus which I have had for 4 years .I do a lot of macro work on insects etc and it is very good. Small enough to fit in a
handbag. The newer models are also good. Easy to use, and large viewer.

I have a Canon EOS 450D DSLR, its a bit heavy to carry around and I only take it with me if I am going somewhere special, I carry around with me a NIKON coolpix, I get brilliant results with it.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I'm currently using my Husbands Canon 700D but the 75 - 300mm lens is a bit disappointing as you don't get much distance with it, nowhere near as much as I had with my Canon powershot even though that was very unstable on full zoom. I'm currently trying to decide between the Nikon 900 and the new Panasonic Lumix with the Leica lens.

Hi,
I suppose it all depends on what you want the camera for i.e. just point & shoot or something a bit more sophisticated. I've got a Canon EOS 1100D which I love and it takes some super photos but it is quite large and heavy. I've recently bought (From Ebay) a Panasonic Lumix TV60 which is a small, fit in your pocket/handbag, sized camera which has the advantage of having a viewfinder. Many of the small cameras are difficult to use when it's sunny because you can't always see the image on the screen in enough detail. The viewfinder makes this possible and, so far, I'm really pleased with the camera. It has got lots of features which I haven't used yet but also has an "intelligent auto" mode which means I don't have to think about F stops, ISO speeds etc. If you have a local Camera Club in your area or a U3A Photography group they would be more than willing to give you loads of advice.

The Kodak Brownie 127 is a cracking little camera.
