Hi, when you become a solo act how do you manage a vacation?

I have managed 2 trips to visit my cousin in Australia but it took eight years to pluck up the courage to do this. unfortunately it is too expensive to do this every year. So I'm curious for ideas.

I became a solo act in 1992. I think it is all down to preparation, first decide the mode of transport, I do not drive so it was either train or coach or fly, then see where you can get to and where you want to go. For me it is always in this country. British Isles.
Maybe visit a friend. I then plan my week, where I go and how, something I can look forward to doing and not end up wondering what to do when I get there.
I was astounded at other people's reactions that I should even want to go on my own, or have the courage.
Now I am unable to go for long walks so I go with a coach company. No bags to lug on and off trains. You can go to a multitude of different places and it is not just for older people.the cost is really reasonable as well. They also go abroad if you want to do that.
I am comfortable with my own company and actually prefer to do my own thing and not having to do everything a 'friend' wants to do. Found that out the hard way.
Go for it,

I am not solo but my husband has mobility problems so stays in the hotel or when travelling on the bus while I go sightseeing with the rest of the party. During the last three years we have been to Myanmar, Uzbekistan, Namibia and Kazakstan with either Titan or Saga, I have found that there are always single travellers among the group and they team up to explore or shop during the holiday and I always join in with them, most are ladies and although we never meet again we invariably have fun during the days we spend together. My advice is choose where you want to go and just go for it.

Hi Catlady

Try volunteering it's cheap & rewarding.

I just spent 16 fabulous weeks working in Brazil in a tourist lodge & on a farm. It was great fun and met loads of interesting people. I paid for flight & transfers & got free board & lodging (not 5*)

The web is great for finding placements start with "Charity Job" which has actual jobs and volunteer requirements. I used Volunteer Latin America which has a small joining fee also look at Workaway and Working on Organic Farms (WOOF) both of which are worldwide.

Put your big girl pants on & go for it!

Hi,
I have been on quite a few coach tours as a solo traveller and have made some lovely friends. My first trip, many years ago, was to Austria visiting cities which I had been to before so that if I wanted to walk round by myself I knew that I wouldn't get lost - have to admit to having no sense of direction so could get lost in a paper bag! 🙂 I have also done a solo river cruise on the Rhine - that was great because the boat moored more or less in the centre of the towns/villages we visited so everywhere was within easy walking distance. A friend of mine has just returned from a trip to the Italian Lakes with Solos and she said that it was brilliant so is saving up for another trip next year. If you Google "singles holidays" loads of websites will appear so there's plenty of choice according to your budget. Happy holidays! 🙂
