Advice on where to retire to Spain - not cold but not roasting

Hi, I plan on retiring to Spain this year and initially was looking at the Torrevieja area but have seen numerous articles about it being like a council estate full of tourists.

I'm not sure where to base my search initially but I don't speak Spanish and don't drive, also bringing my dog with me, so I'd need a area with ample walking, close to shops and where I could get by without speaking Spanish for the time being.

Also where I could buy a 1-2 bedroom property for £50,000, thanks in advance.

Hola!
We bought a villa almost 5 years ago in La Marina Urbanisation, Costa Blanca South. We spend 6 months of the year here. There is a mixture of nationalities with English being spoken in the numerous local bars restaurants and supermarkets. The people here are so friendly and welcoming. There are numerous activities to join which are all reasonably priced. There are local markets on Thursday and Saturday providing fresh produce, clothing etc.
The sandy beach is accessed through an undisturbed pine forest (it's a lengthy walk of about 25 minutes or 5 minutes by car.). Alicante airport is around 25 minutes by car. There are numerous taxis and a new shuttle bus.
The life here is relaxing and as busy as you wish to make it
I expect and hope you have already settled in Spain - I hope you love the Spanish lifestyle as much as we do. For anyone else considering the move - do it, you will not look back!

If still looking as previously mentioned best thing to do is rent for a few weeks and see if you like an area. La Marina is quite British so no need to know the language but I'd have thought you would need a car. Try Gran Alacant, 10 minutes by taxi from airport, mixture of Spanish, British, Scandinavian with regular bus to main City of Alicante and no need for car basically - just remember can get nippy out here in winter as well so not always shorts and tshirts!

On the Costa Blanca Torrevieja is a good choice or perhaps La Marina. You would be OK in both especially as you do not drive. Both areas have plenty of English speaking people living in them.

Rent first to see how it works out. It would not be my first choice of location. Learning the language is important if you p lan to buy.
