Online names - how do you choose yours?

So - why did you choose your online name here? (if it's not just your own name)

I have just realised how poncy mine is - a perfect number is one whose factors (other than itself) add back to the original number. So, 1+2+3=6, 1+2+4+7+14=28.

Mathematicians should not be allowed out on their own!

I think PerfectNumber is rather clever, not poncy at all! Not much thought went into mine - it's quite simply the name of my dog!

Mine comes from where I used to stand on the terraces (later the seating) at White Hart Lane - the world famous home of the Spurs - well until we got our spanking new ground last year of course.
The 'Shelf' as it was known was the middle tier of terracing on the east stand of the stadium, the place for the real die-hards, the lads, the boys etc etc... So many fond memories, so many people I've lost contact with, all grown up and respectable, ahem. A REAL football stand.

Mine comes from a poem called " Warning " by Jenny Joseph which just about sums up my attitude to life now that I am an OBE (Over B........ Eighty - Aussie Quote) and not willing to sit quiet and fade away!
Response from PerfectNumber Original Poster made on 4th Feb 2022 08:00:10
Oh - I love that poem - what a great name to choose.

I chose mine when I got my first email address on my first computer ...windows XP.. I’ve used it ever since when I wanted to be anonymous...as if anyone would want to troll me!!!
No reason not to let you into my secret. My mother’s name was Elma and my fathers was Don. So there it is.
I thought it was quite ingenious.....at the time.!

It's a great name. Never thought of a mathematical name. And glad you reminded me what a perfect number is (not sure I ever knew, if I'm honest, but like the concept). Mine came from a name generator. Not very original, is it? I picked a Japanese one because my son has moved to Japan. I've been trying to learn a bit of Japanese, but I haven't got very far.

I use Our Kid when I can (all those Midlands people who think they're the only one!) because my husband calls me The Our Kid Show With Tonight's Special Guest (say that with a mouthful of cream crackers). Sadly, it's usually taken, so I resort to Molly Bloom (or the closest I can get when that's taken. I also use DocOK sometimes (my spouse's fault again - "Doctor Our Kid"). My whole family go by nicknames - I can';t think of one relative who actually answers to his or her baptised name.

I used to have glasses that darkened in the sun so my grandchildren’s other nanna christened me sunglasses nanna, those grandchildren are now 16 and 13 but still refer to me as sunglasses

I chose the name because I make my home in Ontario and the white Trillium was officially adopted as Ontario’s floral emblem way back in 1937. It’s found in the forest and woodlands on Ontario and blooms in late April and May.

I'm glad you asked this question I have. been a silver surfer for approx 5 years Originally my on-line name was ecatg my middle name backwards.Due to tech problems I am now Carnflowe which was meant to be Cornflower but typing on the phone is fiddly.
Response from Mabel06 made on 9th Apr 2020 13:21:07
I thought Carnflower was a clever take on a West Country accent - a little sad that it's only a typo!!
Response from Carnflower made on 9th Apr 2020 19:11:17 > @Mabel06
That didn"t occur but I can hear it in my imagination
Unfortunately my accent is Oxfordshire with a lot of Scottish words thrown in
It's strange in England people think I m Scottish but here they have no doubt I'm English and worse than that they judge me to be posh. They should hear my children who.have the Dumfries twang accents here vary from town to town not just county to county.
