Have you ever thought "wouldn't it be funny if......" but in reality it is not? Today I was shopping in a well known department stores food hall. I saw there was a strawberry trifle in the meal deal so stretched up to get one of the shelf. I'm only 5'4" and the shelf was quite high. As I got it the cardboard sleeve ripped and the trifle fell to the floor. But not before covering the poor woman standing next to me in custard, jelly and cream! Thankfully she was a good sport and laughed. All I could do was hand her a tissue and wish the ground would swallow me up. One of the store staff helped clear the woman and rest of the mess up. Her husband was laughing, she was laughing, I was curling up into a ball inside. So, I doubt I will be thinking wouldn't it be funny to have a food fight any time soon. Have you done anything like this? Please say yes and help me feel less stupid.

I frequently have problems getting items off high shelves in supermarkets, ginntonic, as I'm barely 5'2", but, although I have often knocked items off the shelves in my efforts to reach them, so far I haven't actually had anything land on anyone! It's just a matter of time though..... 🙂

Thank you Lionel, that has made me laugh. I am just so glad the unfortunate woman who got splattered was a good humoured sort.

I feel for you ginntonic , I think I would have been dying inside too!
Luckily I've managed to avoid mishaps so far whilst shopping but it could be because at only 5 feet tall I can never see the top shelf let alone reach it so always have to either ask for help from a passing tall person or give up on my quest!
How lucky it was that your "victim" took it in good part......knowing my luck I would have been threatened with all sorts and would have been so traumatised by the whole experience that I wouldn't be able to return to the shop again.
Don't feel stupid.....if anything the fault lies in the design of the packaging and the shelves being too high!!
