An open page for anything

Since I signed up just twelve days ago, I have found that the most popular subject is the pages for newbies, which is great and makes sense, but after that, the pages get a little more specialized, in as much as they head towards a particular subject, So I'm hoping that this page will attract all things that people wish to say.

It could be a thought that you wish to share, related to anything, maybe it's an idea, or a question anything that's on your mind.....

For instance, I woke up this morning and decided to ask for this page to be set up, apart from that, I'm just pleased I woke up LOL

I find this open page idea very interesting.
I am new here and still exploring this site.

Hi VegaLyra, Hope you find this site interesting, once you get used to the layout of it, you'll find its quite easy to navigate. and there are some very friendly people using it, most are always glad of a chat. you may see my reply to Seagreenwater above here, and maybe pick up some ideas from that chat as well. hope you enjoy Len
Response from VegaLyra made on 2nd Jun 2019 13:03:25
Thank you, LeonardM8.
I am still trying to understand how this forum works.
It is different from other sites, as far as I can see.
I could not find the Private Message section…
Have a nice Sunday !
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Jun 2019 13:19:19
Hi VegaLyra. one way is to go on the main page, select community , there is then some more choices, select community photos, will take you to the photo section, alternatively select one of the other headings to go to forum + others,
it is a little complicated to start with, but it all makes sense after a while, I hope you will persevere , I think we all had the same problems at the beginning .....
Response from VegaLyra made on 2nd Jun 2019 13:24:14
You are very kind, LeonardM8, thank you.
I infer that this is an Instant Chat box and it is public.
Am I right?
Thank you again .
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Jun 2019 13:50:56
it is instant as such, if you check in with the little blue and white arrow on the right of the page, it will tell you if you have any notifications , click on the eye symbol, it will take you direct to your replies,
for more direct approach you can click on private chat, with whoever you are chatting with, you can write your chat, and send it, that way it will come up and tell you on your emails, and ask if you want to see what has been replied, it will take you to the chat section.

I will send you a private chat message in a moment, and you should then be able to see how that bit works. Len
Response from VegaLyra made on 2nd Jun 2019 13:58:56
Thank you for your kind reply.
I do not go to Chat Room on any site, so I do not know how it works.
I communicate via private messages on other forums, but here I haven’t seen this section.
We cannot see who is online, either.
Thank you very much for your guidance.
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Jun 2019 14:09:16
I don't know if you received my last public chat, but I have sent you a private chat to show you how it works, hopefully you will have received it by now, which should show you how it works,
these open chats we've been having are public, but the private chats are just that private. Len
Response from VegaLyra made on 2nd Jun 2019 14:20:49
I went to the Chat section and answered
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Jun 2019 14:26:15
Yes I understand completely what you say about chat rooms, although basically that is exactly what this is here, what we are using here, is a chat room on this section, as are are all the sections on the site, (I think I'm right in saying that) its the nearest thing I've ever used to a chat room anyway, although I rarely use the private chat section, because there is no need, what I say is welcome to be seen by anyone who wishes to look at it. Len
Have fun VL and don't forget if you want guidance on any thing at all I have always found Sally the editor will always try to help, she has a very busy time with us all on here, but she always tries to help. Len

I will do my best and hope I will grow to like this site .

Thank you LeonardM8, your last paragraph made me laugh... and considering it’s cold and miserable today here in NZ that’s a good thing, so thanks again.
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Jun 2019 12:45:54
Hi Seagreenwater, Hope you find all the pages on this site good, there are interests for everyone on here, I must admit, I haven't been to this page for quite some time, bad of me really, being as I asked the editor to set it up... oops.
I mainly use the site to put up my photo's, I am not what you would describe as a photographer as such, but I do love taking and sharing my photo's.
I hope you will find that page and upload some shots of your Beautiful country, I have never visited, and probably never will now, as my physical working life has left me with various reasons why I cannot sit in a plain for such long journeys, we went to Canada some years ago, a 10 hour flight, and I was nearly crippled sitting all that time, 24 hrs even with a break would see me on a Zimmer frame LOL. but I will keep a watch on the photo page in case you should indulge us with some scenery from NZ. Len.....
Response from Seagreenwater made on 2nd Jun 2019 21:30:47
Morning Len, sorry about the delay in replying, time zone I’m afraid. It’s 8am here at the moment and chilly. I know what you mean about long haul flights but I just bite the bullet and do it anyway. Have got it down to 25 hours yuk. Tend to walk around inside the plane to keep the kinks at bay . I was planning another trip in September but this time flying into Edinburgh and going on some walking tours and then catching train back to Malvern to see my family. Might leave it to the spring now. Getting back onto your subject of photos, I do love photography and will try and post some shots of the Valley I live in. At the end of the Valley is the Dept of Conservation and they have some fabulous walks there, the main one be the pinnacles which I haven’t done yet. Talk to you again.
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 3rd Jun 2019 21:57:53
Hi Seagreenwater. no doubt its morning there, as its 9-45pm British summer time here, I think it is roughly 12 hrs difference , here to there.
I think you will enjoy Scotland, although if you have family here, you probably know your places over here anyway .

my wife sister live in Southerness, south-west coast of Scotland, so we have been going visiting there for about 40 + years, and never get tired of it, such a relaxed country, compared to southern England where we live.
anyway your day is just beginning , ours over here is just ending. so I wish you a great day, and goodnight lol.
Response from Seagreenwater made on 4th Jun 2019 09:38:56
Evening, it is really weird isn’t it, here I’ve just finished a days work, had dinner and now ready for bed and you are beginning your day... never ceases to amaze me. I always get my timing wrong when I phone my son in Malvern. I have put two photos up neither of which are the Valley where I live. One is just up the coast from me, and the other is further up the North Island above Auckland at Piha. I am going with the tramping club to Oputere Bay by Waihi on the weekend so will take some photos then. It is on the eastern side of NZ so has lovely beaches. Scotland is very similar to parts of NZ especially the islands although we do have a lot more fauna and flora haha. Take care..

Here's something that may be interesting to other S surfers ?
I have tried a couple of plant identification apps in the past, but haven't really found them useful.
and the ones that are charge for giving you the answer,

Now I have found the best of all IN MY OPINION and its free.. if you use facebook ? go to the groups section on the left, and click on the one that says Plant identification UK (not the other one).
you request to join, it may take a couple of hours to get an acceptance email, but once you've got that, you can get any amount of plants ID d. and I must say that having used it about a dozen times at least, and they've come up trumps every time, and within a few minutes
hope this may be useful to some of you

Sally and her team just do a fantastic job and create a list of things people are interested in.
If you want to take over Sallys job apply for the job and you will find it is not as easy as it looks.
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 6th Feb 2019 10:17:47
Hi Archie, I don't know quite what has upset you ? is it because I set this page up ?
if it is, then I'm sorry it's upset you, but I thought that, that was what we were suppose to do, everything I have done has gone through Sally, who I agree has done a wonderful job with the site, but we can't expect her to read everybody's mind on what they want to talk about.
Once again, sorry if I've offended ANYONE, that was not my intention. Len

Hi Yodama, now thats set the cat amongst the pigeons LOL, I will not be able to rest now, for thinking about these sayings, I do agree though, we have some weird vocabulary....
I'll go and ponder now... (oh dear where did pondering come from ). ? lol
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Feb 2019 12:01:45
Hi again Yodama. on the subject of colloquialism .
Have you ever tried speaking to a broad Geordie ? NO SLUR, intended, I'm married to a Geordie girl, When we first met, in 1969, the only thing we did in the same language was laugh.
it was actually quite hilarious in my house and family, what with there Chetties, (potatoes). and nettles. (the loo) and a thousand other words, in fact there is a Geordie phrase book that can be bought in tourist places, bit of a fun thing, but actually very useful .... in fact my brother-inlaw bought me one...
they are in fact the friendliest people you could wish to meet, you wouldn't know it because you can't understand them. LOL
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Feb 2019 13:56:16
Well I think you have a lot to think about today ,
Geodies, Aliens, and colloquialism's I'm sticking to dunno, and coffee.....

Here's another question,
Why do councils insist on ONLY gritting trunk roads ? we all know that Motorways roads are our main link roads, but there is no point in moving fast on them, if you can't go anywhere once you turn off,
Mid Hampshire was a prime example last night, as shown on both main and local news, drivers trying to come off the M3 couldn't go anywhere because local roads where iced and snowed up,

about 20 years ago I used to be involved in gritting, having worked for Winchester city council, we were sent out night and day, our big wagons did all bus routs, and the smaller wagons had small portable gritters on the back, which looked after smaller roads and estates,

but our shifts were kept going until all roads had been covered at least once.... I haven't seen any local gritting done for years now,
they get you to these places, but from there on, you're on your own ........
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 2nd Feb 2019 13:49:29
Yes agree about Chicago, poor people,
I'm glad to be retired now so don't need to go out unless I want to, lucky me...
it is unusual for our part of the country to get the worst of it,
Apart from that, tea or coffee sound like a good idea, I'm off to the kitchen. lol

Hi Leonard
I am always unsure of how to start a chat, but felt that I wanted to share my unexpected treat this morning. I was walking back from the dentist, enjoying just being out and about, and showing through the snow there were lots of daffodils pushing through. This gave me such a thrill all this bad weather weather, and nature carries on. Just lovely.
Response from LeonardM8 Original Poster made on 1st Feb 2019 17:07:47

I've just finished a set of 3 books, by Rory Clark in Kindle books, he was or maybe still is a Factor on their lordships estates, the first in series is called ( You done what my lord ). based on true life stories on the large estates of the lordships. I read all 3 books in about 6 days, couldn't put them down over the Christmas period

Right now to kick this page off,
I wonder where all you folks have disappeared to ? I haven't been on the newbie page much the last couple of days to say hello, but prior to that, over the last couple of weeks I have seen dozen's of new members joining, but I haven't seen many of them popping up after joining,,,,
when I joined, just a couple of weeks ago, I looked around the site and found the photo page and chats, they are great pages, and a good place to start, but then I wasn't able to find a page that wasn't specific to one subject, Although there is Chit Chat section, but again sets subjects... so with the aid of the editor, I have set this one up. and this is the third page I have set up in the last week.
I suppose what I am saying is if you can't find a page for your topic, ? set one up so you can talk about your interest.
and if you feel a bit shy or daunted ? ( and I am basically shy ), just remember we are all anonymous, and private, unless you wish to be otherwise.
give it a go, and if we make fools of ourselves ? don't worry nobody can come and get you LOL.
