Pension increase for 2020 - what are your views?

Just had my letter in post telling me how much I will receive after April 2020 the letter says the new weekly payments will be £173.75 per week.

My payment will be £142.43 per week. This is because I have a private pension as well.

So by trying to ensure I could care for myself when I retired I now find myself being penalised for doing the sensible thing.

Today in Westminster Boris was asked if a £111.00 pounds a month was enough to live on? He answered NO. I ask what does the government think is a fair amount to live on each week!

I just feel like I have been slapped in the face for trying to care for myself. I paid my insurance every week for 38 years but can't get the full amount because I took steps to care for me.

Now a neighbour who choose not to work all his life gets full pension plus some benefits.

Good for him but we are living in a country that the less you do the more you get, well that's how I see it.

You can get free NHS prescriptions if, at the time the prescription is dispensed you are aged

60 or over.

I don't know much about it. But I have great interest in it and I would like to learn more.

I, also am one of those who saved a bit for my old age while I was working, my reasons were from watching my own parents struggling on the old age pension as it was in 60's onwards. I wasn't allowed to join the firms pension plan as a part timer and female. The EU changed that, but too late for me! Now I am one of the in-betweeners, don't pay tax, don't get any benefits other than my Bus pass and TV licence which will swallow up any pension increase for this year, unable to claim for anything else, while someone down the road gets it all paid for. I wonder whether it was worth it, but then I get by, still run a little car, not in debt to anyone, and pretty fit and able for my age. I do not begrudge extra help for those who really need it, but very angry at the scroungers who never made an effort to help themselves. The system does not help it is not flexible enough for those who can get occasional work but then have their benefits stopped and cannot afford to wait for several weeks to get them reinstated, but that is another topic!
