Places of interest

I have looked at thousands of photo's on this site, some of them are stunning, the ones that intrigue me the most are the beautiful place, some are lovely scapes, and others are short views.

What I would like, is for people to come here, and tell us where some of these places are, in relation to a particular area, even if you don't post photo's you may like to tell us about particular places of interest.

I know I would love to have a list of lovely places to visit up and down the mainland Britain.

I hope this will be of interest to other's and hoping that we can all put some useful info on this page

I have just had a look at your Utube videos, nice to see the old steamers,
I was at Beamish living museum, when it first opened , My Wife comes from Stanley, only a few minutes away from Beamish, and we went back to live there for two years from 1970 to 72, and it was just getting off the ground then...

Hi Len,
This is a great idea. I usually try to put on the photo caption where the scene is, if it's a landscape, or the name of the flower if I have been visiting gardens and taken some close-up shots. The photos which I have put on the site today were taken last February on a super visit to the Highlands of Scotland (Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle) where we were fortunate to have wall to wall sunshine for the week.
I have visited the Dumfries & Galloway coast many times and have posted photos of Portpatrick and surrounding area. I know the places you have mentioned quite well - Glenluce is another favourite.
On New Year's Eve whilst I sit on the sofa with my dram of Glayva in hand I often take photos of the fireworks shown on the television screen and then make a collage to send New Year greetings to all my Silversurfer friends - a couple of examples on the Showcase! 🙂

Thanks Carole, Just hope people can find this page, and put some info on it,
I think maybe its a bit tucked away here, knowing how people struggle round the various parts,
I know when I had a quick chat with Wilf last night, I had asked him to look in as well, and I think he was struggling to find this page,
We will have to see how it goes ? Just trying to do something to get some movement in the photography area, although people are happy to post their photo, it seems to stop there with no further info on places, anyway Thanks Carole for the input.

Hi Carole, just a quick update, I have this morning, submitted another topic page to the editors, it's basically the same as this idea,
but because I unfortunately buried this in this photographic site, it wont be seen by many people,
so have created the new one in general chit chat and called it PLACES we've been, ( I think thats the name ) my memory is shot, anyway something like that, and I think it will be seen by many more people.... hope so anyway.

Hi,
If people look on Latest Subjects they will see the original post but as newer subjects are added it will move down the list. Having the two topics might generate more interest - I hope so 🙂 I will look out for it and add a comment!

Thank you Leo9nard for your kind remarks..
Untill a few years ago we used to dive to many places but today we noften go on coach trips but that has some bonus points.
When I was working no one was interestd in my holidays the expression was " If you had not been on a aeroplane ,you had been on holiday", and I just love my country.
A couple of years ago we went on a trip to Southend on Sea, what a remider I was lasr there in around 1958 and we went on the train to the end of the pier, in 1958 I walked it and back.I wish I could do that today.
Nice place and a very nice shopping street and plenty of sitting down places so amongst othe things a very enjoyable stay.
I would reccond it to northerners give it a try.

Hi Archie, I was born and lived in London until I was 20, born 1949, a little after you.
my father worked in a company called the projectile, ( don't know what the name meant ) but anyway, they used to build chassis for lorries etc, but they ranged a day out every year for the workers families, as did most big firms, and yes it was always Southend, it was the highlight of our year, I have a Sister and a brother, it was the only trips we got, other than one year about 1954, we had a whole week at Laysdown, that was the bees knees to us then. lol,
my wife and I have done a bit of flying around the world on holidays in the nineties , but like you, I've had enough of airports and all that entails, so now we just enjoy our homeland, well we may take a trip Jersey one day in the future, but only because I've always fancied it.

Any Archie, just to update you on this subject, I have submitted another topic on the general chit chat section titled PLACES we've been,
that's because it will be much easier for other members to find and be seen by a lot more people than this site, look out for it under general chit chat.
it's a pleasure to talk to you, and hope to have many more chats, Len

Hi Archie, that is just brilliant , this kind of post that I was hoping for on this page, I think you have caught the essence of what the page is all about, I hope when others read this, it will give an idea what the page is all about.
I with my wife, have been to a lot of the med islands, and have done Canada Rockies, and a visit to the US New England, but these days it's all about UK, and I've got to say that we are so lucky here, as far as scenery and seasons are concerned , we have the best I THINK.
And as for spelling mines all over the place, thank goodness for predictive text LOL
thank again for you input Archie. Len

I am in the process of putting my photo's onto the photo page, they include Flowers, mostly taken at RHS gardens at Wisley.
Wisley RHS is just off the A3 road just in Surry, not far from Guildford, you can find this one easy.
some of the Village shots I am putting on are, Easton, Itchenstoke, and Mitcheldever, All 3 of these villages are close to the M3 jnc 9 at Winchester, also I have some shot's taken in Winchester, which nobody would have any trouble finding.......
Further afield, my wife and Myself travel to the south of beautiful Scotland, to visit family members,
I will be putting some photo's on taken at,
New Abbey, about 7 or 8 miles from Dumfries half way between Dumfries and Southerness.
Rockcliffe about 7 or 8 miles further on from Southerness, on the same road.
Kippford, a little further on the same road,
I hope you will post on this page, so that we can all get an idea where some the beautiful photo's can be taken. and then we can build up a list of places to visit
