Playing Classical Music

Hi, Just looking for someone to share my love of playing the piano.

People ask what I have been doing during lockdown and I tell them I've been playing the piano but that is usually as far as the conversation goes.. lol.

I guess I am looking for people who would be interested in classical music I play but you don't have to be a musician yourself as long as you have a passion for music.

Hi Justsue and Nornie53

i love playing the piano too, and during the lockdown did (or tried to!) some 'Mendelssohns Songs without words. What composers do you like playing? Today I played Dvorak Humoresque.

All the best

Hi Beatrice,
I have not been on the site for a long time so only just seen replies. ( I am not too good on social media!!)
I have a passion for playing Bach. I never get tired of playing his music. I am learning the Bach partita no 1 at the moment, something I have always wanted to play. Do you have a favorite Mendelssohn? I will look it out.

Hi Sue
Good to hear from you. I too have a passion for Bach's music. I have tried a few of the '48, Beautiful pieces but difficult! . I have also tried Bach two part invention no 8. Yes I have a favourite Mendelssohn piece, which is opus 19 no 1 (consolation) from his songs without words. (such a friendly piece in my view) I am sure there are other great pieces from Mendelssohn too. All the best with your pieces, and do let me know (if you would like to ) how they are going. I am currently struggling with the fluency on fugue no 3 of the '48.

Best wishes
Jane

Love piano music. Have recently been listening to the soundtracks from Pride and Prejudice and the Forest Gump Suite for piano- beautiful music! Guess it is a passion for me too.

Hello Justsue,
I also have a passion for playing the piano. I like to play different genres of music. And like you, I’ve been devoting my time to my piano since Covid hit the USA. Lately, I’ve been working on some Strauss waltzes, Khachaturian, Nirvana and the Doors.

Hi Nornie,
I am sorry I have only just logged on after a long absence, so did not reply earlier.
Yes playing the piano keeps me sane. It's like having a faithful friend! I guess I'm quite narrow in my choice of genre to play but enjoy listening to allsorts. I wonder what the Khachaturian is you played?

I always regretted I could never learn to read music and play the piano. As a youngster I lived through the Big Band era of the 40's and 50's when in the middle of a number the piano bass drums and guitar would often take over for a few bars. I Just loved that sound. I only got as far as playing amateur on trumpet.

It would be lovely to play the piano ,my Father related stories of having his knuckles rapped with a rule when he made mistakes .He decided his children would not learn which was a shame as I'm sure not all teachers used this method .He played classical music all the time at home , but my music tastes are varied .I have the time to learn now but not the confidence .Why do new things get a bit scary when we get older?
