Prostrate Cancer

One man every hour DIES of advanced prostrate Cancer in the UK. It is one of the main causes of death in men and some as young as 50 or younger have been diagnosed with advanced incurable prostrate Cancer. If caught early it is entirely curable. A simple blood test taken from the arm at your GP can indicate if you need further investigation. There is no national screening programme you have to ask for the test. Please please have this simple test annually from 50. My dear husband is now dying because he did not know about this test and in spite of going to the GP with symptoms was not given the test until too late. Please heed this warning.

I am currently on hormone therapy for prostate cancer. 6 weeks in. Some side effects but not too bad. Will start radiation therapy at end of July. With a bit of luck, I will be clear and back to normal by October. If caught in time prostate cancer is just another disease which can be dealt with. Parkinsons and MS are much worse.

If you are over 55 get a PSA test done.

My husband went to the doctors as he was feeling very tired. Consequently after an examination and being sent for a blood test, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, we are waiting for him to go in for a radical prostatectomy, this has all happened since the end of November last year. His op is in a couple of weeks. We are hoping that once everything is removed we can look forward to the future.

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer 10 years ago and was treated with Radiotherapy and had Hormone Treatment. I no longer have treatment. My PSA is around about the 1 mark now and whilst I have been left with a few side effects I live a full and active life, go to the gym 3 times a week and enjoy long haul holidays.
Having cancer completely changed my attitude to life and other people which is something good to come from my illness. I attended Maggie's Centre during and after treatment and found the experience there very rewarding and revived my interest in writing poetry, some of which can be read at "poetrywithian.wordpress.com" .
