Religious choice

If you didn't have a choice but had to pick between being a practising Muslim or a practising catholic, which one would you choose?

It's just a way to separate the gullible from their money.

How can you not have a choice but have to pick? Pick, choose, choice, they are all the same, aren't they?
Personally, I don't have a faith, I ever have, so I don't understand why religion still persists.

As all religions have(in theory)the same goal(joining a deity when they die),
they take differing paths to achieve this goal.
Religion is about using the concept of a deity to control and manipulate it's followers.
Technically there is no right/wrong religion as belief(of a deity) is about faith. The existence of a such a being is theoretical ,as it can neither proven/disproven. Ironically ,as most religious literature preaches brotherly love, if such a deity does exist, this deity is shaking their proverbial head at the hypocrisy of the human species.

Celticwitch ,you may not believe in organized religion, but you do have a philosophy in which you have lived your life by. That philosophy defines who you truly are.
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not be false to any man,
Farewell , my blessing season this in thee!

And we all know what happened in Paris last November, don't we?
God is certainly not great!

Neither. I find most religions to be divisive

Practising Catholic without a doubt. Cannot imagine living three steps behind a man. Our Western world has moved on so far over the years as shown by the Christian tolerance of all opinions.

I agree with Celtwitch - what's the point of this question, if you haven't got a choice then there isn't a choice to be made.
Perhaps the writer means "if you could only choose between Muslim or "practising" Catholic"
and if you were being given such a choice why would you put forward Muslim or "practising" (one day I'll get it right) Catholic - or are we considering a world where there are only two choices - I can't see that ever happening.
Sadly "religion" is at the heart of most of the worlds/peoples problems - but if you want to discuss faith, now that, I believe is a different discussion.

Worship Mr Blobby if you wish, whatever floats your boat! More deaths in the name of various faiths than anything else throughout history. Does strike me though that killing in the name of religeon is 'negotiable'. Depends on what faith is doing the killing and which is getting killed to justify whoevers faith.

If I didn't have a choice and had to choose it would probably be Catholic.By 'Catholic' I presume you mean Roman Catholic since 'catholic' means universal I think.I would choose that because it is embedded more in the European culture than is Islaam and so I would feel more 'comfortable' in that 'mould'.How about yourself Trampas1955?

I think I would prefer to be a practising agnostic. Religion has created wars, torture, murder, etc.

As an Agnostic ,I concur with your impression of organized religion and it's history.
Organized religion is about control and manipulation and has little to do with a Deity,
except to further it's own cause.

How true. Opiate of the masses is the common factor in religions. I was chastized at Christmas when I questioned the continued practice of putting on a nativity play at my grandson's school. Catch them early I suppose. It is understandable to follow the teachings of a real person in any walk of life but the concept of god (lower case!) and heaven is ludicrous.

One of my main concerns is religion being incorporated into our school systems, religious education and/or celebrations should be left to religious institutions/leaders, No matter one's position on immigration, the fact is our student population has become diverse, representing all segments(religious concepts, as well as agnostic and atheist) ,putting undue pressure on students whose only concern within the school should be general education.
Response from orchardlane made on 4th Feb 2016 16:58:09
Amen to that! Underfunded schools should not be used as part of social services either.

Picking a difference in religion is like apples and oranges, it's subject to the taste (in this case ideology) of the individual. They(Islam and Catholicism, and Christianity in general)have the same roots in Judaism and have embarked upon different paths. In religion, as in politics ,there are extremist, and no sect/religious concept is without them. We, the people of the world, must learn to set aside prejudice (all forms) and respect everyone's rights to live their lives accordingly to their philosophical beliefs. As there is absolutely no way to prove/disprove the existence of any Deity, it is ludicrous to fight/kill in it's name.
