Relocating to Scotland

I am 55, born in Scotland, and for the last 35 years have lived in south east England with my husband of 32 years. The current situation has shown us that we can work anywhere ( we haven’t been to the office since March) and I am keen to move to Scotland to be nearer family in Glasgow.

My husband has always lived in the area we live in now so he is a bit concerned about how welcome he will be but is willing to tag along:) the trouble is that at the moment we can’t travel as we would like and spend time in different places so deciding on a location is hard. We want to be no more than an hours drive of Glasgow and not much further north than Balloch. We would also like to be no more that half an hour from the sea. We would like to be near (within a mile or so) or in a village/small town with some facilities, where there is a community we can join in with.

We love walking our dogs and so nice surrounding walks are a must. I know this sounds quite a wish list but this will be a big move for us and I would really appreciate your thoughts. We have a decent budget to buy and would prefer a nice area to a large house.

Thanks for reading this.

A late reply to your post, but 15 years ago, after a long exile in Hampshire, we took early retirement and relocated to N. Aberdeenshire. A bit a long story, but it was the one of the best things we ever did. Being from the north (although not this area) we were familiar with the culture and found it no problem fitting in. We bought an old traditional house with a good sized garden in a small village. Instead of looking at our neighbour's fence, we have open fields and quiet roads.

On the down side, all the local shops have closed, but it's an easy drive to the nearest town.
Broadband is also pathetic - about the speed of a carrier pigeon. Still, people are friendly and easy going. No matter what you want, somebody will know where you can get it.

My mother was from Glasgow (Dennistoun), but we aren't city people. If I was to live on that side of the country, I would have looked at Largs or Wemyss Bay area.
