To retire or not at 55?

Hi I am 54 and aiming to retire at 55. Would like to hear from people who retired early and if on hindsight, was the right thing to do! Many thanks !

Plan your finances and retire! My husband retired on his 56th birthday....he pottered around at home for a year or two...gardening etc...whilst I still worked. then we went on a coach holiday to the Var, south of France and ended up putting a deposit on a little "villa" ie one bed terraced bungalow on a new development on the edge of a Golf Club. (We didn't play but we rode our bikes a lot)!!) It was nearly two years before it was built but we spent several summers down there...visited all the tourist sites from Monaco to St Tropez and enjoyed a very cosmopolitan environment among people who had come from all over Europe - Danes, Swedes, Norwegians, USA, as well as french people and Brits! We had very hot summers...including forest fires bearing down on us...were evacuated once to a Sports arena for the night but were rescued by a lovely french couple who took us home and put us up in their annexe. Eventually we decided to sell as the heat was becoming boring...can do little in constant 35 degrees....then we caravanned all over France for a few more years. In between we fostered babies for Social Services ...very rewarding! Time flew by...so make the most of it! Everything came to a stop nearly 3 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia...in the space of one day our lives turned upside down. He finally lost his battle in June this year...after two years of Chemo sessions,,,remission...then relapse. So I shall never regret retiring early...we had a lot of fun the last few years which we never had time for before, And we didn't need a fortune to do it! It' s all about individual priorities! So go for it...start planning! Life is for living!
Good Luck!

HI. Retirement is great. I retired a few years back and now I am having a great life. But I ensured to enroll in a Medicare supplement plan from The Health Exchange Agency https://www.thehealthexchangeagency.com/ to have a stress free retirement. My stress of medical expenses has lower down since I enrolled in a right plan. Keep your retirement stress free by planning for your healthcare.
