After School "Granny" Work

Hi, I'm a new silver surfer! I run an agency which supplies after school carers to local families in SW London, and I'm looking for some advice. Many of these families are looking for an older person to look after their children at the end of the school day and also on an ad hoc basis during school holidays. Someone who is perhaps a real granny, or someone who has recently retired and misses work but doesn't want to work full time, someone whose own children live far away and therefore they don't see their own grandchildren very often... whatever the reasons, the life experience of people in this category is highly valued. Can anyone advise me about reaching out to people who fit this bill? Or, more generally speaking, if you were looking for part-time work of any kind, where would you be most likely to start your search? Any help is much appreciated!

You may have hit on a really good idea. Have you come across The University of the Third Age ? If not google it. There will probably be one in your area. Older people who join this organization tend to be active, enthusiastic and often very well educated. Your local U3A may be prepared to let you give a short presentation or circulate some information. My local group allows this for organizations seeking volunteers. Each local group operates differently.
I am not sure how a local U3A would react to the idea of their organization being used to recruit individuals for paid employment. I suspect some members would love to do such work.
Good luck !
