Have you seen Bands or artists before they became household names

Being brought up in the early 60s , I did manage to see a few bands plus others before they went onto famous ladder. Music wise I recall seeing a band at work on a Xmas do, they were then known as Episode Six, but my workplace also saw someone I had spoken to through work getting on stage with them he was Ian Gillan, and they later became Deep Purple... Continuing in the music theme, another band whilst serving in RAF, known as Ambrose Slade which became Slade, we also in the NAAFI had Black Sabbath as well. Although not music related I had the pleasure of being in the same workplace as Pam Ayres, I mainly got to know her and her sister as we attended further education one day a week from work in Oxford.

Am a big fan of Jo Harman, who has yet to achieve the household name status that she deserves. First saw Elles Bailey supporting Jo a few years back and Elles is now becoming well kinown, what with her slot on Planet Rock and all.

Saw Diamond Head around the time of their first album release. Can't remember if they were supporting a big name or on a triple header bill at a local rock/metal night.

I was a very early club DJ, opening my first record club in Rugby UK in 1964. At the time there were no discotheques, in fact the word had never been used in the UK. Live music was still the gendre with every small town having its regular Saturday dance with 4 0r 5 local groups strutting their stuff. The list is endless but I remember Tom Jones singing at The Gaff in Banbury in 1965. He had been booked for GB£45.00 as he was unheard of - the week he appeared "it's Not Unusual" was a No. One hit!
I was a roadie withe The Action some of who became Ace with the classic "How Long" becoming one of pop musics greatest ever

I saw George Thorogood at the University of Delaware, US, in the mid 1970s, before he became famous. I have been playing blues/rock guitar for 48 years.

I used to play in a band in Sheffield where we used to hang around the local bars and pubs to see the other local bands who weren't known then such as Def Leppard and Human League (before the girls joined).

Hi all. This is my first post. Joined recently and saw this post heading. Interesting names there. Thought I would bump the conversation.

Most "famous" people I have known were already famous but, when I was younger, I knew several musicians who became famous later in life.

Back in the day four boys at secondary school with me joined together to form the band Japan and then went on to solo careers (one unfortunately passed away at a young age).

Others I have known are mostly classical performers, players in top orchestras, and some solo recording artists and some published e.g. John Lenehan (pianist/composer/arranger), Jonathan Dove (composer), Emma Johnson (clarinetist).

I saw Billy Connerly at the start of his career it was in a small hall in Dumfries.Whilst he was funny what was even funnier was my Scotish friend explaining what he had said to me as an English girl I couldn't understand much of what he said.We were one joke behind the whole way through and probably annoyed those sitting near us no end !
