Single supplement charges at Hotels, Motels, B&B's, and others.

As a single person, I do like to go places, on a whim with no particular destination in mind. As I browse through the accommodation on offer, as usual, the cost of a room, for a single occupancy always carries a "supplement " which does infuriate me. I use the same bed, shower, use fewer towels, less water, coffee, tea etc, and am usually offered an oversized broom cupboard. As there is a quite large army of single travellers, we should be given a discount, not a supplement, and, I am sure that other singles do as I do, point this out to the owners of such places that they are losing revenue.

Some places have now realised the error of their ways, and do advertise that there is NO supplement for singles, and do reap the benefits, as I do use these places often.

Would like to hear of any places that do not take advantage of us.

Hi Ariadne,

Quite a few of us solo travellers have had a rant on a post which I put on the site in March (Single Travel Supplements) about this very subject. As you so rightly say, we are often put in a broom-cupboard which could never ever be made into a double room (unless they used bunk beds) and then, to add insult to injury, we are charged a supplement!
Which companies do you use which don't charge a supplement?

I'm having a hard time finding my way around ,however, struck lucky, and found you. I don't use any travel companies, as I don't particularly like "Gang Holidays ," far too regimented .I drive,, No 1 passion, so I decide which bit of The country I would like to see, look through the brochures of places to stay. and check their creds,, I now prefer farmhouses in the countryside, near enough to the places I want to roam. A telephone call , for a little chat, and a gut feeling.usually works, or ,if I pass a hotel ,that looks interesting, I pop in, and always ask to look at the room first, .A lot of hotels
assume that single women travellers are a pushover for poor accommodation. I did retaliate with one hotel and reviewed it with some home truths about the room, seemingly .over a thousand people read it . So, naming and shaming seems to be the way to make hoteliers realise that we ..single and female ,are not to be treated as a room filler.
