So Whose in a Band?

As someone now in his 6th decade I continue to refuse to grow old gracefully. Having played guitar in rock n' roll band's since being a teenager, my enthusiasm and passion show no sign of diminishing with my band 'the VinylZoo' currently recording their debut album 'Welcome to the Age'. The other three band members are all 55+ and share my eagerness to get our original (not covers) music heard. The Covid pandemic has obviously stymied our progress at this time nevertheless we continue to write and collaborate albeit remotely and hope that when normality returns, we may actually have better material to record. I hope my post generates some interest as I'd love to know who is playing, singing, producing and as long as you believe you are relevant and still have something to say, then age is merely a number, bit like 4/4......

Hi

I’m also in a band, mostly ladies, we play fabulous 60s covers to a senior audience on an unusual line up of instruments. It started as a hobby but we’ve been performing for 5 years together. We are all semi retired, mostly aged between 60 and 80.

We can no longer carry the heavy equipment so we have a roadie, but apart from that our band diary is full and we’re having a wonderful time !

We play for great causes such as National Older Peoples Day, Armed Forces Veterans, Lions, Cancer charities, Masons etc

I was wondering is there a Silversurfers band/musicians community? It would be good to connect

Having lived throughout the golden years of the Big Bands in the 40's and 50's, whenever the term 'bands' is used these days brings to mind crazy looking jumping and gyrating performers. Resulting in one big turn off for me. Just my opinion of course.

Great to hear from another aging rocker. I think I can beat you as I'm in my 70's and still play in a band infact two bands under the same name. Some members belong to each band. One plays live and the other concentrates on recording depending on whose available. I play bass. We're called the Sofaz (Sad Old Facts And Zoe) who's our occasional female vocalist. We generally play in pubs and clubs. Our drummer Chris also belongs to Stormchild (see internet) They were big in the 70's. Our lead guitarist once played alongside Faiport Convention but he's on off to live with his German wife. Also our old lead vocalist has. decided to go off and sing medieval materials instead. I think he's showing his age. We've made three c.d.'s and a live recording. We play anything. When live it's usually rock covers but when doing studio stuff it's softer stuff. My sons a musical multi-instrumental wizard and records most of our backing tracks but drummer Chris has a recording studio in a shed in his garden. Myself I like Zep, Cream, Stones and I collect rare Beatles records because that's where the money is to be made.
Keep rocking and keep safe

I envy you! I was only ever a wannabe, though I have performed on stage as a singer quite a bit over the years, including currently. My eldest daughter married a drummer and my second daughter married a guitarist and both of their husbands play together in the same band - on YouTube they’re the Lockdown band and have spent most of this year doing covers of well known tracks. My son is also a drummer/guitarist and used to play with his brothers in law too, so we’re keeping it in the family!
