Why are we all so obsessed with age? It is something I have never understood. We don't choose when we are born, we can't stop time or the phases of life we go through. We are all at some age and some position in the time we are alive: there is nothing unique in any of it. It simply does not matter how old you are: what matters is how you decide to live your life and how you feel inside. Plus the ability to forget the clock and numbers.

So what is your view … when do you think middle age begins and old age starts or is it all a state of mind?

There are staging posts along the journey of life ,baby child ,school years , further education years for some, careers, courtship. marriage raising families maybe divorce work work work and then. Retirement ,I'm not sure when middle age kicked in ,but at each stage of the journey along lives path I knew there was another stage post to reach that is until now what comes after Retirement ? I seem to be in limbo waiting for I know not what.

Well I think i might be rather weird as I cant think of myself as middle aged What is that half of 80 then thats 40, or is it 65 OMG I am a delinquent 70+ and i still waiting for whatever it is that makes me middle aged although I dont really think i want a label. I am not running marathons, but then i never did. i was running around on beaches in Cornwall with wonderful dogs. I love nature and chatty people. Once when waiting for a train somewhere in Europe i got talking to a lovely white haired lady, she was well travelled and so interesting that i wished i could have got on her train to listen to more of what she had say. I was about 35 then and she was ageless, just a wonderful interesting lady that I remember still. I really think the best thing to do is just live and forget the years. My dear Mother lived to 94 and unfortunately after never having been ill was diagnosed with cancer. When we went to the hospital the Consultant took one look at her and said "My God you look good" she was actually 8 weeks away from departing this world. She said to me when she was in the Hospice, "Who would have thought it would have come to this" I had to bite my lip really hard to stop from laughing. Bless her, i think she was upset when she realized she would not be getting a card from the Queen. Dear Mum I still miss her. Yes middle age is a state of mind, and if you get over 80 I guess its probably time to use your mind for more interesting issues like a really exotic holiday or just doing something "outrageous" like a music festival and sleeping in a tent in the mud - sure to shock the middle aged kids.

Middle age is definitely a state of mind! You are as old as you feel … when I look back at when I was young, my mum seemed so much older then I feel now at the same age. She was a spectator and watched me growing up, whilst I think I got very involved and joined in with everything my kids did, and still do now! I don't feel middle aged at 51 … in fact I don't feel much different to when I was 30!

@sundown middle age 35...omg!i really do hope you're joking....
.age is all in the mind, think yourself old and you will be, using your age as an excuse for not doing something? you'll age quicker than you can you can say boo! the problem most people make is giving 'permission' to others to put them into a box labelled 'old' ....most of us are defined by others, others tell us how we should act, what we should like, what we should be doing at certain times in our lives.... this is all * ( insert which ever word you like)....btw i'm 52

For most people middle age really is around 35. Yes 35. I remember being 40 and feeling young in body. I had a 4 year old the.
I am over fifty now and boy do I feel it. Still very young at heart.:-)

I reckon Im over middle age because I somehow dont see me doubling my age. In some ways it is a state of mind, but then again theres definately differences. I couldnt see me having time for babies around the house full time again. I get narky with my 17 year old for leaving all the lights on and not tidying behind him. At work I had it sussed, I hung out with all the younger workers and they used to call me bro...has all backfired now as last year a couple of girls started calling me their dad 😥 compliment for sure...but realisation I wont be attending any raves soon!

I suppose I probably reached middle age at around 45. I certainly don't consider myself to be old yet. I have always believed that growing older is inevitable, but growing up is entirely voluntary! 😉

I guess middle age is reached about aged early 40's as not many of us will probably exceed 85 nowadays, in which case I am most definitely old.

However, in my mind I am still 21 even if the body doesn't move as fast as it did then.

Age to me is just a state of mind. How many of us daydream about our teenage/younger years as though it were only yesterday. I certainly do.

This Yorkshire lass will always be young, no matter how old she gets :-):-)
