We have a patch of ground at the bottom of our garden that we use for growing vegetables but about another 75% of the area is too big for us so has become overgrown with weeds. I have now pulled all the weeds up and dug it over, raked the soil and got our the stones and sown grass seed (in August) but have just read that its best to sow the seed in September or October. I suppose this is because it rains more in these months but I am going to water the ground every other night and see how the grass grows. I would be interested to see if any other Silversurfers have sown grass seed in the summer and the results

I think the weather adjusted itself to look a bit like September/October this August - Have you been doing a sneeky raindance 🙂

Yes I think it has worked! I seeded the plot about 4 weeks ago and now its full of lush green grass! Really glad I did it as it looks so much better

Yes. My B&Q 'old gits' card gets used almost as much as my bus pass. Particularly useful should you have the odd costly purchase.

My local B&Q recently cleared out rolls of turf at 40p each! I know that doesn't answer you question. But I think that would be the way I would go.

Many thanks I will have a look at this and think B&Q have a discount for over 60s on Wednesdays as well. Might be a lot simpler to buy turf. I have never done it before and would need to calculate the area to be turfed over. Cannot believe its that difficult to lay turf and I assume it just needs to be watered regularly. All the best
