How do I spend my spare time

As hobbies and interest go I would be seasonal in what I attempt. Autumn makes me think ( filling my freezer ). At the moment I am using different fruits that I have foraged this autumn. Today I have made freezer cheese. Using blackcurrants, apple and blackberry and plums. This is setting now in little ramekins.

I will freeze them later tonight. The ramekin size is so handy. I find one pound jars much to large. I look forward to using what I have made.

Letting the fruit cheese sit and mature will make it more tasty. Not for long though!!!

Hello All!
In my freetime I like baking and cooking. My daughter's favorite dessert is my homemade roll.
Haha, it reminds me of a really funny joke 😀

I don't know that I will become the little herbalist though learning about what is healthy to eat, coming out of a wild place does work for me. Too much health and safety concerns would get in the way. Nicholas Culpepper got something out of it. I was never taught or shown this in my younger day. I ventured all the time as a young girl. Left to my own adventure and that is how it was. Surrounded with such variety in my formative years. Can't be bad.

We have the knowledge from our peers in the industry so we try. As long as we use knowledge correctly. I have a teenage granddaughter whom has little fear and will leave necessary order undone. That will do, she says, much to her mother's chargin. Mother, pulling hair out, says to me. What to do? Granddaughter, I know she is going to get through life. Her mother is wondering who granddaughter is taking after as mother and father are methodical. I laughed afterwards. I had just what I gleaned from knowledge and curiosity.

Well hello to everyone. I see a new format on Silver Surfers. I have not got on here very much as I am house and animal sitting for a few days. Holiday time and all that. Done Christmas shopping early so that I can feel I have accomplished something. Woke up to a fantastic sunrise over a really frosty view. Good feeling. Pootling about for the remainder of Saturday. Enjoy your few days up until Christmas. I will catch you later. X

Couldn't agree more about the farming, Lionel. I'm a city girl born to an ex-country man. My grandad ran a smallholding but I never took an interest in growing stuff until he & dad were long dead. Had to learn all alone (with the aid of many books). Now in these weird times of isolation & shortages, I'm glad I did. Eating my home-grown onions every day now, to use them up before they sprout. Yum!

Would love to know the recipe for freezer cheese! Never heard of it before - is it just fruit cheese made for freezing, or does cheese actually come into the mix somehow?

Christy Moore is mostly in Ireland as you say. Does perform in Scotland also. He has a gig in Carrickmacross in March. That would be easy for me . I will have to think about that.

Well hello folks. Hello from Ireland. I been kinda busy these past couple of days. Catch up here at home and some work shifts. Finished of some Aran knitting and it is looking good. There is the annual Georgian day to attend tomorrow in my local city. That is lovely every year. A good council who know what they are doing. ( well nearly know ) ha ha!! They are alright. Georgian day has a full quota, food market, craft, local specialties. As we live in the picturesque orchard area, this is promoted and it works for them. Theatre in our little city is good and always coming up with the varied Irish shows. Anything from all the traditions, local lore. Our cathedrals are busy all weekend. Georgian day is the day when the Christmas lights are switched on and a lovely light show after that. Our weather has been frosty, but lovely. Foggy today. All we need is that it stays dry.

Hello everyone. After a busy weekend, so far I am sure taking it easy today. You have been busy too on Silversurfers I see. I am not sure I would use Red Diesel as a medicinal remedy. One would certainly get bad breath. As for anything intergalactic I will stand out on a cold starry night and look up in awe. Feet are firmly on this earth.

Yes and yes to your answer Little Minx. Lionel does explain well Over here it is easy to get away from artificial light and up on dark hills to watch the constellations. It does one good to stop the materialistic living and go and study or relax with the stars. I have taken picnic before now. The forays for plants have been put on hold as I am busy at work until the 15th Dec. Family are a bit scattered this Christmas and doing traveling E t c. I will be watching out for homes over part of the Christmas period. I don't mind that at all this year. Horses, small animals and such like.

Had a busy day. Did what I did this morning. Soup was good, plenty left for tomorrow. Makes tomorrow easier. No work Wednesday. I have been knitting this P M. My mother knitted Aran sweaters and jackets for years. She did not teach me as such, but I am knitting them too. I will never knit as many as mother did, though I am pleased with what I have done. I also do embroidery. So pleased with the ability mother has handed down. My eldest sister is always quilting. She has a number of these done and giving them to each one of her grandchildren. I think she has 13 grandchildren.

At last Jenninora, something I can do but I'm impatient and tend to knit toys as they are quicker! I have knitted some sensory bands for people with dementia. Still haven't made any soup.

Well hello to you all. My spare time has been taken up SOME these last two days. Was commuting mostly for a caring capacity and no chance to join in to Silversurfers. You have had plenty to talk about and lots of fun. Subjects like hats ( which I love ) I did wear them ( quite a bit years ago ). I have few photos that I can put on Silversurfers. There is many in the old albums. Liberty bodice ( with said little rubber buttons) all the rage. Navy knickers, O deary me. What can I say??? Today when I have time I am going over to a herb garden ( which is in the next county). I want to get some ideas from the owner that I may change aspects of my own garden in the next year. I do have quite a bit already.
Response from Tomtwodogs made on 17th Nov 2016 09:16:33
I await with bated breath the appearance of you liberty bodice pics from your albums.. lol or have I read that wrong ? he he !
anyway enjoy your visit to the herb garden, I too sometimes forage when I am camping wild, the young fiddle heads from ferns go into the pot ,. the leaves of the Ramson ( wild garlic ) that give off that distinctive aroma in the woods during early summer, ,which are nice chopped up as part of a salad, and tea made from pine needles. rich in vitamic c. natures bounty eh !
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 17th Nov 2016 11:40:49
Going soon to Favour Royal woods to look into this Herb business. I do have most common herbs here growing at home. All I want to do is see the clean woods for future gathering of herbs ETC. Some more that I may get from a garden there that I can plant here at home. Finding an uncontaminated space is getting difficult to find. I will keep you posted. As for any of my antics of young days , will be found on Memory lane page. Catch you all soon. X

Well,as the rain has passed,as it DOES in Ireland, I have just returned from a long walk with my dog. Because he did not get far on Sunday we must have went 4 miles this morning. Cut some Willow spikes of branches to start some Christmas arrangements. So much is coming up in the next few weeks. I enjoy it. I must say everyone on Silversurfers are talking about so many subjects, it is stimulating to see that. And fun to follow.
Response from jeanmark made on 14th Nov 2016 14:21:04
I don't have a dog to walk and my husband hates being taken out on a lead but I have just made a few christmas cards if that counts as doing something useful. Also spent the morning at my WI Craft Club for a knit and natter but think there was more natter than knit.
Response from jeanymay made on 14th Nov 2016 14:34:45
Good afternoon ladies. I don't have a dog anymore, but my ex husband should have been on a lead...in fact I would have been better just sticking to dogs !
Response from jeanmark made on 14th Nov 2016 15:15:42
Sorry jeanymay but that made me laugh. I know a number of people who believe dogs are the answer to a happy life, men as well as women. At least I did't have to house train my husband, his mother did a good job with that!

Many years ago my niece was getting increasingly angry with her mother-in-law telling her how to bring up her children. She responded by telling her she wouldn't take the advise as she had married one of her mother-in-laws children and she wasn't that impressed at her parenting - ouch.

Not this year. Two years ago I made wine with them. Not bad but they are explosive in wine. Made 4 crab apple and 4 plum and grape. Well I came down one morning and the wall and counter was a different colour. What a mess. Crab apple wine on 2 corked bottles blew. Er, what was left was okay though. Not got around to making wine this year. Maybe I get some made in the New Year.
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 12th Nov 2016 18:44:31
Little minx. I am laughing. I am not quite as bad as that but it has been hinted at. I am in Ireland you know, where the little people live. I have locals talking to me when I am foraging and jokingly pass remarks on what I do with all the stuff I gather. I think they have an idea that I have medicinal purpose.
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 12th Nov 2016 19:01:17
Believing like that is very spiritual. Close to natural world. People could do better by getting back to that and live a more simple way.
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 12th Nov 2016 19:05:58
Yes. Would not do any harm.
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 12th Nov 2016 19:07:34
Mind you. How would we have a chat without internet social media.
Response from jeanmark made on 12th Nov 2016 19:37:38
Well, I'm put to shame as I have never foraged and certainly never made anything edible. As for foraging for medicinal purposes, I wouldn't know were to start although I am well aware that many modern medicines have their roots in nature.
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 12th Nov 2016 20:20:48
Little minx. It sounds like you could teach me a thing or two. Medicinal, I am not too well read on, but what I do know I put to use. One has to be careful regarding herbal plant for medicinal purposes. I like the cordial making. Jeanmark. It would take me to be more of a gypsy of Ireland to know and do more in anything of that line. I am not one of those. HA HA.
Response from Jenninora Original Poster made on 12th Nov 2016 20:40:42
Yes I know of that book and I have read some from it. All those plants, I do know about. Interesting stuff I might add.
