Starting Again

Hi, I am new and a widow. I enjoy many crafts but not interested in sport. I belong to several groups and try and get out as much as possible. I have always enjoyed reading.

The evenings are rather lonely and I miss having someone to eat with. I would love to go on holiday later this year but am anxious about travelling alone etc.

Hi Bryony, welcome to Slversurfers. Depending on your budget, there are several companies that arrange holidays for single people and, according to friends who have travelled with them, they are good because everyone is friendly and happy to chat at mealtimes and on the optional tours. I have been on coach tours to Austria and Germany and Scotland as a single passenger and have always managed to make friends with other passengers. Have you looked at your local U3A group - they often have a Travel Group and if they are travelling in the UK the coach will usually leave from a central pick-up point handy to home or if they are flying somewhere, there's usually someone who will offer to car-share. Single rooms can vary - often a broom-cupboard overlooking the car-park or rubbish bins but I have had some super ones as well. The first time you go on holiday alone can be daunting but nothing ventured - nothing gained so Good Luck!
