Static Caravan Site

I'm Thinking of Moving to a Static Caravan site to live there all Year round. Has anybody got any experience of this and what are the pro and cons on Caravan Living? Thank you for any answers..

Hello CaroleAH
A few years back I purchased a Park Home, Some things to take into consideration are:-

You are subject to your local authority tax requirements ( e.g. council tax)

The site owners will charge you ground rent. You might own the home but not the site it is on.

The site owner supplies services, drainage , water supply, electricity and maybe some others - they will charge you as they wish. You're on their site !

You must have insurance to cover your presence on their site. Obviously you may wish to have contents insurance for your home.

Each site could have it's own regulations for specific reasons. i.e. certain changes you may want to make may require their permission.

Oh ! if you wish to 'sell up' and move out they want 10% of the value of your home. So research it and do your checks before you make your decision. There is a UK advisory service covering this but I just can't remember it at present - Mr Google may help!

Happy hunting !!

Hi Flyingdreams, it's actually Meta who is considering buying a park home - not me, but I'm sure she will appreciate your advice ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Meta,
Do you mean a "park home" on an over 55s site? A friend of mine lives on one of these sites and has a super home which has a large l-shaped lounge, well equipped kitchen and two bedrooms, one en-suite plus a parking space. She absolutely loves it and has made many friends there. One of the cons for me would be the close proximity of the other homes so everyone seems to know what everyone else is doing. On some sites you are only allowed to live there for 10 months of the year so you would need to check that out before you make any decisions.

Thank you for that CaroleAH.That was my concern aswell being to close to other homes..I think i will have to stay on a site for a holiday and see what life is like there..Enjoy your Sunday..

That sounds like an excellent idea. Don't forget that there will be maintenance fees to pay as well, so what might seem like a good bargain in actually buying the park home or caravan can then be a drain on your resources when the fees are taken into account. I would love to live at the seaside - only if I had a sea-view, of course! ๐Ÿ™‚ - but realistically could only afford a flat and the maintenance fees can be astronomical and a bit of an unknown quantity as they can increase dramatically - I'm pretty sure they never decrease.

Thats what i would like to do..Living by the seaside..I was aware about the fees and they vary dramatically on each side..Its always been my dream to retire to the Seaside and living on a Caravan site is the only way i could afford to do that..:-) not unless i win the Lottery..Thank you for you input..
