IT support at home please

I desperately need a call-out to fix my computer problem. Trying to reinstall my printer, it freezes at the last hurdle. I can't take anymore advice online, I've tried ALL of it. I'm 72 and have M.E. so my energy is limited both physically & mentally. I live in West London, Chiswick. Willing to pay but quoted £60 an hour, beyond my means. Know who to contact anyone? Can't use the phone due to deafness, email only. Losing the will to live, lol! Thanks.😃

I purchased my laptop from Curry's and also took out a 4 year 'care plan' at the same time.
Any problems or queries have been dealt with very quickly when making a call to ask for
assistance. If you are not computer literate a 'care plan' is highly recommended.

That is interesting as I am just about to buy my 88 year old mother a new laptop and have been looking at curreys. They seem to have better prices than Amazon but do not answer their phones!

I bought mine from the store Wilf. Had a bit of a problem with it after about 12 months. They came and took it away for a 'check up' and bought it back a few days later.. Problem solved and NO CHARGES either. I am into my mid 70's, self taught - making lots of mistakes along the way - but if I have any query about anything I am unsure of the technical people are only too ( not sure if it's REALLY correct for me/them to do so ) happy to explain things to me over the phone. Or are they just taking pity on an old fella who has trouble getting to grips with the latest technology ?? If I hadn't purchased the 'care plan' they probably might not have bothered to help !!

if your laptop is windows, search on line for the latest driver for your printer and operating system.
I had the same problem with my canon usb printer. I searched for "new driver for canon model xxxx printer for windows 10 os. That led me to the canon web site which did fix my problem.
I am a retired software engineer so I do have experience. I would help more but I live in the southeastern part of the US.

Maybe late in that instance but probably plenty of people who like me do not make full use of their lap-top.
I.E. What do you consider good virus protection ?

How do you down load photo's to take advantage of obtaining free prints
.
It follows there are also probably other tasks and uses but you can't do what you don't know about.
Maybe Silver Surfers could issues a numpty's guide to computing.

If you haven't already got it fixed or tried the following then do this:

- Uninstall all the printer software currently installed.
- Download the latest printer driver software from the manufacturer's website
- Make sure you get software that matches your OS
- Make sure the printer plugged in by a USB cable.
- If it's wireless you can switch to wireless later after you get it working.
- Follow the instructions on installing the software and printer that come with the download.
- Try printing a test page

If it still doesn't work, new printers are so inexpensive these days that you can get a whole new one for less than the cost of a service call. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Nice of you to offer, but do you realise that you are a couple of years too late?

I 've run across seniors who have let their tech sit idle for years because they couldn't fix it or get it going themselves. Sometimes it's because they've been given a used PC for free and just had no idea how to use it. Plus you might not be the only one who here who might be able to benefit from a little free tech advice. So really, there's no way for me to know whether or not this would be useful, but I figured it couldn't do any harm to offer an answer.

Can't remember how much it costs, but you can pay for annual 34/7 support from pc world. I know the cost is fairly reasonable and they are really good - even at 2 in the morning when I had problems with my laptop. Might be worth checking out.
By the way. have you cleared down all reference to the printer before you have tried to reinstall the connection from your pc to your printer?
