Teetotalers - what are your thoughts?

Plenty of posts on those who like a drink or help on what wine to choose etc, but what about us who have chosen not to use alcohol? I have never been a heavy drinker, just the occasional social drink, and as I used to drive professionally I would not drink at all the day before. As I got older, I liked the effect less and less that any alcohol was having, even just a half pint or single whiskey. So around a year ago, I took the decision to not drink any alcoholic drinks at all. I still have a good social life and go out most weeks with my partner, who also either does not drink or very little.

How do others feel about this subject? Have you got to have alcohol to make sure you have a good night?

My personal choice is Lime and lemonade, although there seems to be more choice these days for the non-drinker.

I think the last alcoholic drink I had was about 40 years ago. I don't consider myself a teetotaller, I just don't like the taste and saw no point in drinking, believing I can be social without it. Fortunately my husband is the same as I can't stand the smell either.

Alcohol like most things fine in moderation therefore fine for those of us that k now our limitations. Not so fine for the victim's of drunk drivers and abuse victims.,or the NHS who pick up the pieces.
Prices are about to rise in Scotland to make alcohol less access able ,will this make any difference.? I don't think so what will ? Perhaps something I heard yesterday that among the younger generation there is an increase in the sales of non alcoholic drinlks and as with smoking becoming gradualary unacceptable so will excessive drinking.

Like you, Steve, I rarely drink alcohol when I go out socially - I'm usually the driver so my friends enjoy their G&Ts and wine whilst I have lime & soda. Having worked in an A&E department and seen the effects of drunk driving I wouldn't take the risk. Alcohol, in excess, is also the cause of many assaults and bad behaviour - there's nothing worse than seeing a load of drunk young people staggering about and effing and blinding in our cities making some places 'no-go areas' for more sober citizens. I enjoy a glass of wine with a meal or a liqueur with my coffee but only when I'm at home or when I'm not the nominated driver 🙂
